Another fun Sunday, 4-7-02

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
Well, began the day out with lifting in the gym with some max effort lower body work. Went well. Here goes:

Bottom Position Good Mornings
several warm ups
275 x 3
325 x 3
375 x 3
408 x 1

High Bar Squats (full)
225 x 2
275 x 6 (easy)

Deadlifts
405 x 18 in 90 seconds, totally raw
.....laid on the ground for a solid 20 minutes trying to cool off..hah. Much more of a cardio set than anything else.

Farmers Walk
130 x 150ft
180 x 100
200 x 75 with 1 turn
130 x 100 with 4 turns
.....was brought to my attention that our handles are "rolling"...hence making it harder...sounds great.

Tire Flip
600lb tire x 5 warm up flips
1,000lb tire x 2 flips, 600lb tire x 5 flips...65 seconds
30lb tire x 1 flip....exhausted:)

Log Press
140 x 5
162 x 5
190 x 5
212 x 5
240 x 3
.....leg drive and "snap" at the top is getting MUCH better. I feel much stronger at these than I did a few months ago. You can actually hear the weight snap at the top.

Yoke Walk
345 x 150 ft with 1 turn
435 x 100ft with 1 turn
435 x 100ft with 3 turns

Hussefeld Stone Relay
155 x 50ft, 245 x 50ft, 285 x 50ft, 155 x 50ft, 245 x 50ft
.....was fun doing all of these back to back...gotta love how the wood/bark tears into your arms!!!!! I also realized that the 245 is harder than the 285 because of the thickness of it (14" I believe).

That was it...I'm pretty fried. We "thought" about doing the atlas stones...haha...but quickly talked ourselves out of it after doing the Hussefeld Relay. lol

Any thoughts or advice?????

I tell you what...pushing your stomach out may make you stronger on those...but they do NOTHING for your looks...my belly looks huge... I guess as long as I am stronger when I push my belly out as far as I can...who cares? Right?

2nd flip with the 1,000 pound tire. I used my rock climbing/harness pulling shoes today and liked them a lot for the tire flip.

Whoooaa...look at that right calf....lol

B True

Struggling with the 30 pound Michelin...but it is an LTX...so that might make it a bit harder. :)

Ohh...no I am not humpbacked...haha...those are my erectors...

Speeding by with the 285 stone...gotta love how it rips the skin off of your arms...even through your shirt sleeves. And to think that I was crazy enough to do the 2 other stones again after this set...what was I thinking?

Now...where is that Icy Hot, Ice, and alleve?

hey where can I get some traps like yours? those things are taking over your upper body mang. also, I think your belly isnt huge at all, not EVEN for a strongman. I just think you are one THICK ass mofo.

that michelin tire flip pic is HILARIOUS :spit:

Thanks man...my traps have come from doing farmers walks I believe...that is all I can figure. I have never really had traps...till the past several months when I started training for strongman.

I appreciate the comment about my belly...I have just been trying to push it out as far as I can and STILL be able to breathe when I do the events. It wasn't till I saw this pic that I realized how far I was actually pushing it out...lol. I am a little fat too...but if eating a ton of food means performing better...well...on contest day it will NOT matter how good my abs look...only how the perform.

that shit is crazy

i wonder what the neighbours are thinking

"hey look bfold is taking his tractor tires out for a walk"

Don't feel bad about the belly...

b fold, your belly can't even begin to compete with my "big, bad, Buddha belly". Maybe I'll post a picture of the little beast some day. That way you can feel a little better about your "so-called" big belly.

:D :D :D :D :D

i always look forward to the "Another Fun Sunday" Threads. They make Monday Mornings at work a little bit easier.:D

MrMuscle: All of my neighbors are 65 years or older...they love it. Why pay for ESPN when you can just watch me...haha. My neighbor that I share the driveway with...is trying to help me make a pair of farmers walks from softballs. You just drill a hole through the ball, push a nail through and bend it at the other end. Run chain through the nail hook/loop and through some plates. Talk about a grip exercise!!!!

heavywear: I don't think that I would have it any other way. I like things simple and hard. I used to teach Martial Arts in a concrete block building, holes in the roof, concrete floor, throw down carpet we put down every week, no heat, no air, no fans. The thing is...I ONLY got the students that really wanted to learn. It was fun training when it was 100 in the summer and freezing in the winter though...just as it is now.

Screwball: What is funny is that in a lot of pics..you can see my abs pretty well. I like my belly though...shows that I am in an anabolic state:).

enrage: Thanks for the compliment man...I just hope that my training and my pics might help someone here on the boards just a bit. I am a no non-sense type of guy when it comes to training. I just believe that people can get bigger, faster, and stronger through simple means. The thing about strongman training...is that it is FUN and you can do it with friends. We all look foreward to training every Sunday...our most fun day of the week.

We can just hang out, push each other, watch all of us get stronger, better, etc...and we really encourage each other. I am 24, Cheese is 30, and Bover is 57. When we train...we are all the same age. I hate it when Bover beats me on something though...lol.

You scare me. I hope if i ever do meet you, i dont get you mad.

Maybe one day you'll get that 30lb tire flipped....i know those things can be a bitch sometime....

Farmers walks look like a lot of fun too... i might make a pair of them, and try to incorparate them into my westside routine if i ever get around to it.

Did I mention that I am sore? That hussefeld stone relay took a lot out of me...

bfold, the only thing that could possibly be funnier than the little tire picture would be a video of you struggling to get a hold of a glued down quarter. :D

that softball farmer walk thingee sounds neat. have you thought about using a solid metal ball? drill a hole straight through, use a thick bolt if you could counter sink it, or even just use those real flat topped ones (should only protrude a little bit. i think the softball would crumble too easy, but a solid metal ball the size of a softball would be good, if you can drill through it and hack out a small divot in the top to sink the bolt, you'd be in business.

little bit of chalk and alot of lactic acid and you've got yourself a hell of a forearm workout.

Awesome. I am seriously thinking of switching my routine around to include a lot of this stuff.

I really do love strongman training for several reasons...but number one is the fact that it is fun. It is resistance training but in a different way. Every event is a full body movement, either for maximum weight or maximum reps...distance...etc...

I suggest anyone and everyone to try it...and always have fun when you do.

I may try the quarter sometime...lol

I have seen the softball farmers before and they are hard as heck. People even do a one arm deadlift with them too..talk about fingertip and grip strength!!!

I like the steel ball idea too...just not sure exactly how I would do it.

B True

B Fold- you ever try doing one arm deads with just a regular bar? I tried them the other day and they are damn hard!!

I can't imagine trying them with a thickr grip, especially with my midget hands.

Haven't done a 1 arm deadlift yet...I may try it soon. I hear that they are really hard on your grip, balance, and trunk region.

Did you like them?

B True

Yea. I tried them yesterday after reverse band deads and zerchers. My erectors are more sore than they usually are after that stuff. If I make a fist, my forearms are sore so it nailed my grip too.

The highest I went up to was 185. It was so hard to grip I actually had to try the hook grip for the first time. I was able to get it with both my left and right hands. I tried 225, but no go. Felt like my thumb was gonna rip off.

I'd like to get crazy stong on these one day, like 3 plates, and just walk into a gym during rush hour and freak everyone out with them. hehe

In Boston...the farmers were 305lbs each. When my grip finally let go...I could barely move my hands...I had to pry them open. I made it 135 feet though...and boy did it hurt.
