Ladies, Have any of you that done a cycle been on birth control, if so what was your experience? If any were on the NuvaRing that would awesome to hear back from you. Considering starting a cycle, but am nervous about coming off my BC. Thanks in advance.

No need to come off it unless you were competing..even then, there's mixed opinions, although, if you're competing at a high level, I'd recommend it.

Thanks for the input Caligril. If you dont mind me asking. Did you personally try this? If so, did you still get your period? Experience any of the yeast infections? other sides?

I initianally asked my questions, because I would like to get all the benefits while on my var cycle but if the low dose estrogen is going to limit my gains then I thought of coming off my BC. At the same time I thought about starting my tapering into my cycle and stopping my BC with in that first week, to avoid the hormal shock..

I do plan to compete after the var cycle, not at a high level, but do you reccomend that because of the body fat that females tend to hold?

I've done a couple cycles off bc and a couple on and honestly, thought the results were comparable. I know the higher level competitors do go off the pill because of the estrogen so as to limit the amount in their body, which yes, helps in getting to those lower level body fat, stage ready levels. Logically, it makes sense to go off of it for that reason but for me, the impact was minimal AND it takes my hormones 3-6 months to even out, especially as you get older. I just got tired of messing around with that. I know I'll never compete at a national level so it's not worth the few months of hormonal disaster.

I don't believe tapering will do much for you and wouldn't bother with that either. In terms of sides, it's so individual. Some women lose their periods on 5 mgs/day of var, so it's tough to answer that question. I honestly don't think bc will limit your gains to any great extent but that's just my opinion. If you train hard and have your diet in check, you'll see some good gains.

Thanks Caligirl! Your input has been extremely helpful!! My very first show is this Saturday. I am really excited to get back into a building phase and really put on that muscle mass. My coach had told me about var and said it could be something I can try if I wanted to. I feel as though in my head I already know I am going to do it. Theres just so many questions. Still doing my reasearch, so your help has been awesome.
