Alright girls lets talk about Cardio/Spinning and .......

Personally, I Love spinning. I’ve been spinning on and off for a few years and recently invested on a spinning bike. Now we all know there is so much controversy out there when it comes to cardiovascular training. Some people swear that spinning, long distance running, sprinting etc are not the answer when it comes to fat loss. Everyone seems to have their own theory and it’s all very confusing.

I came across this article " Figure Athlete - Contest Prep Pitfalls "
I would like to know what your thoughts are.

"If I had to pick one single form of cardiovascular training that's absolutely awful for a Figure competitor, it'd be distance running on pavement, with spinning classes a close second.

Typically, the spinning fanatics who compete in Figure competitions have very little appreciable muscle development, and even when on stage have almost zero muscle definition.

In fact, I knew two different girls who used spinning classes as their main source of energy systems work in preparation for their shows last year. When both girls were on stage, nary a cut was to be found.

They had dieted and peddled away any resemblance of myogenic tone they might have kept had they not crashed their energy deficit into oblivion with chronic spinning classes. Neither girl even looked like she lifted weights.

Forget a six pack, or even a four pack, that cute belly button ring didn't have the slightest resemblance of abs to go along with it.

From their soft and supple gluteus to their kyphotic posture to their silicone implants, they were better suited for a day at the beach, or at best a bikini show."

For pure fat burn I walk on a 6% incline for 20 plus minutes. I keep my pulse right at 120. I learned that from someone who works with IFBB pros.

yup..pending on ur age and max hr...than yeah..keeping ur heartrate in the lower end 60-70% will do the best for burnings fats and helping to look LEAN

so if your heart rate is between 137-147 for 15 minutes, it would be better if it was at a lower bpm?

i'm also trying to cut and just wondering.

yeah sticking a lil lower will help with fat burn..but u can also switch from that lower intensity..longer duration to a high intensity..shorter duration. all depends on what u wanna do. that shorter duration..high intensity will help to preserve muscle mass cuz as you train longer in cardio..ur body will start to pull muscle as an energy source. thats why alot of guys who bulk..or when guys do bulk..they do short bursts of cardio either to help increase appetite or just for that slight fat burn. PLUS..they dont want to burn alot of cals that are much needed in bulking. the body is a crazy machine and works in soooo many complicated ways. everyone is differenct and responds to exercise differently :D

I still advocate using an ergometer (rowing machine) with proper form as the best cardio workout. It is the BEST thing to do HIIT and for steady rate it will work your entire body if you are using it correctly. I'm a former D-1 rower, and let me tell you those things can kick your ass to the point of nearly puking without ever stressing joints (again, if used correctly). Concept 2 has a free DVD they send out. The main thing is, the harder you pull, the harder it resists. Everything is in your control and every part of your body is used in each stroke when using the proper form. You can build muscle and burn fat in one session.

It has been years since I participated in Crew. Our coxswain actually went to the Olympics.
All I remember is we didn't have a dock and I had to walk into the water... past a certain point which was not fun:worried:
I agree 100% about a good rowing machine. I still remember "legs, back, arms" when it comes to form. That is how we did it anyway.
Do people still compete for other teams shirts?

At one point recently I was working on the rowing machine, just to vary the pace with cardio workouts. I was only doing 12 minutes, but it kicked my a$%! My heart rate went through the roof!

Yep, legs first, then back, then arms. Still like that. lol, we didn't do the shirts thing, though.

How long do you row for? In the case of pure fat loss that is. I'm assuming the overall time would be less due to high heart rate?

Or if you do intervals, what's the time scheme?
