A very acid food like a fresh lemon paradoxically has a strong alkalizing effect on your ph, which should be slightly alkaline. A slightly alkaline body will resist the proliferation of bacteria and personally I find I consistently have more energy when I get my own ph into the slightly alkaline zone.
