Alan Wake could be the best looking console game I've seen

that's where you are wrong. Final fantasy charges a monthly fee, and it is cross platform. Xbox 360, ps2/3, and PC can all play together, and all pay a monthly fee. And you don't even need Xbox live gold to use it. It's one of the few games you can play multiplayer with only xbox live silver (aka free)

final fantasy xbox is noooowherreee near wow etc. in terms of # of users and profitability. It's no surprise that programmers who work on PC MMORPG's make almost twice as much as console guys.

btw: NERD FIGHT!

I have a feeling that this won't be a good as you want it to be.

I don't have an Xbox 360 so I personally couldn't care. The lower the reviews the less reason I'll have to ever get one lol.

Okay pretty mental ray rendering cinematics - but what about gameplay??? these games have nothing on the world of warcrafts and starcrafts o the world. Halo is the only game i've seen so far which people play HUNDREDS of hours year after year. Consoles are horrible at making games that hook people more than 30 days.

Good gameplay is one thing. A good "hook" is entirely another. All you have to do is look at the Wii's success or most social network flash games for proof of that. I don't doubt that WoW and SC have good gameplay built into their design, but I'm less inclined to believe that the success of Halo has as much to do with good gameplay as that multiplayer "hook". Apparently there isn't an option to turn off aim assist, when even the overrated Modern Warfare 2 has that.

When it comes down to it though, a good game won't need any type of hook other than the gameplay itself.

Xbox 360 is soooo much better for online multiplayer than PSfreeze, I mean 3.

The next sick game coming out besides this one will be "BulletStorm"...GameInformer did a whole write-up on it last month.

That's strange. PS3 is the only console with dedicated servers, not to mention a free online service to play on. In the limited amount of mp I've done (Warhawk, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2) I've never experienced a laggy match, and most of those games, not to mention a game like MAG, sport a hell of a lot more players than any Xbox 360 mp title. I had one disconnect in Warhawk, that was the extent of my mp problems on PS3. Although MK2 on SOE was pretty laggy lol.

As far as Xbox 360, hell even exclusives are plagued with lag and sloooow matchmaking. Gears 2 was a great example of that. How many times did it have to be patched before it was even functional lol. If you're going to charge people to use a service that's free everywhere else, it should at least work "as well", if not better.

Yeah if you like typical overdone arcade games done a billion times. PC games offer wayyy more creativity and people are willing to pay $19/month for that. No console game maker has been able to create a $19/month online game for the console in comparison.

Consoles game makers need to get beyond "FPS/Sports or bust" since the 80's philosophy and start taking cues from the successful pc guys. Look how much Blizzard has made from the pc. Lucasarts with their upcoming Star Wars MMORPG are only doing it on the PC and the profits they're gonna make are gonna be insane cuz people like pc games that are more than just joystick shit.

Nintendo Wii is a refreshing change - they're creating games and technology that's goiung beyond typical arcade games. Guitar Hero, etc. are also exampels of success by going beyond typ8ical arcade games. The next xbox is also geraing up to bring gaming to a whole new level including bringing MMORPG to consoles -- so some exciting things are awaiting.

We'll probably never see a Blizzard WoW, Diablo type game on consoles like they are on PC. Blizzard themselves stated this, and said the best they could do is tailor-make something that would work on consoles, but it wouldn't be anything like WoW on PC. Part of the problem is that once it became anywhere near the popularity of the PC version, it'd be time to start over with a new console generation, whereas the PC just keeps on evolving on the same highway, with no detours.

Whaaaaat? I sold my ps3 because I had 3 of them. Constant dropped games online with COD, lag outs, freezes, dropped matches and lost stats. Not to mention ungodly load times for all the games and "game updates" as soon as you pop most disks in the first time which seemed to take 15 mins on average.

I have an Xbox Elite and Xbox Pro and Ive had one that got the red ring of death on one, but they replaced it within 2 weeks and a got 3 months of free live service.

Playstation is getting rid of cell shading technology and reverting to Xbox style graphics because they had too many issues producing games with the mode they used for the ps3. Had issues with disk space and processing or something like that.

I dunno, I LOVED ps2, but after all the issues myself and a roomate had with ps3, I will probably never buy a PS again unless they make some RADICAL changes.

It's true they might move away from the Cell "processor" (not shading, that's a graphical art style). Call of Duty is multiplat; only PS3 exclusives have dedicated servers, and yeah I've heard bad server loads for both systems in those games because of so many people playing.

PS3's "growing pains" are pretty much a thing of the past now though, even Valve software who is notorious for hating on the PS3 admitted they messed up by not supporting it. Not surprising its first party studios are putting out the most impressive looking games so far-

What I don't understand is the 360 is so much easier and convenient to code for, yet it only just now is about to release a game that can visually compete with the above. Maybe they realize they can't merely rely on the hype anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for PC games 100%. My friends piss me off they play xbox so much. Get it straight tho....WoW cost $14/month at the most (less if you buy the package deals), and xbox is similar plus the cost of each game ($60).

It's worth it to many people to pay $14/month for a game like wow. However, you have the creators of COD churning out a new version of the game every 8 months. That's another $60 plus the live subscription fee. Money to be made all around.

And you know these COD addicts will buy the newest version immediately, just to be the first person to hit level whatever and own everyone else. It's kinda funny, really.

Background graphics look amazing.

How about this game?

Looks like it will have interesting, varied gameplay. Graphics aren't bad either.

b0und (I so have to get back into gaming)

Yeah that looks good but damn those Rockstar games take up so much time lol. I hope they at least fixed up the clumsy combat system from GTAIV.
