adjusting workouts for cutting down

I’m looking for your advice on how I should change up my work out. If I want to cut down, I ran into a guy in the gym who works there as well as a personal trainer and off the cuff. He gave me some advice and said I should do. High repetitions, do, you necessarily agree with this. I’ve been doing more heavy training, 2 or 3 reps at a time.
 
generally if you do high repetitions and keep your heart rate up that can help you. But it's not necessarily the top way to do it.
 
i don't think it matters. just don't train super heavy in low repetition. I think that would be better just for strength training
 
it's most important to put the hours into the gym. Cutting boils down to diet. Also cardio is important
