MCD wasn't even an actor when they hired him for Green Mile. They gave him acting lessons and coaching through the film because he was so perfect for the part.
He had already did Armageddon and multiple roles before Green Mile.

MCD was a bodyguard for hire in Hollywood, and did bit parts prior to Armageddon. Bruce Willis helped him land his role in Green Mile after they worked on Armageddon together. MCD took up acting in Chicago as a teen, when his mother wouldn't let him play HS football according to the IMDB.

He was shooting a film in Bangkok n staying in the same apartment block as I was.
Often saw him by the pool.
Very nice fella stood me a few beers numerous times.although didn't drink himself.

One of the greatest heart felt movies made, he was a big teddy bear of a guy and it is tragic he passed at such a young age...
