ACE P-T certification studying/exam

Im looking to get certified through ACE (after reading all the old thread on the many different PT certification programs out there). Anyway, for those who took the ACE exam and passed, would it be possible to just study the Personal Trainer Manual and pass the exam? Also, I was wondering if anyone has their old books/study materials for the test and is looking to get rid of them?

Well thanks in advance, I'm new to the forum but am loving the massive amount of knowledge that can be found here :)

Don't have the books anymore; however, you can pass the test with just the manual. I ended up taking it over a bet that one could not read the book in one week and pass the test.. they lost.. I passed. But I can tell you that I also had AP Biology and AP Chemistry along with Physiology from High School under my belt... so if you have not have a bio or chem class you should really plan to study. Most guys I know who do not have those base classes take a couple of times to pass...

Best of luck!!

Update (for those who might care):
The test was ok, not extremely hard but not easy. Only a few (~5) questions involving anatomy/physiology, and most of the questions were about how to deal with clients, espeically what to do when they have certain circumstances (i.e they're hurt, pregnant, etc). The simulation part of the test, i thought, was much harder, because you have to know exactly how to deal with a real client (what kind of questions to ask them, training protocols to recommend, etc). We'll see how I did in a couple of weeks, hope this helps someone.

You should have no problem passing the ACE exam without the study materials because it's pretty easy.

the ace exam is not easy. If you dont have any background in human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics etc. take your time and study the manual for some time. you need to buy the manual and study the guidelines that they go by. dont listen to this person.

Um, the ACE is not easy.

Here are some sample questions:

1. Which lever class is typical of most joints of the human body?

2. John is 54 years old and has a RHR of 75 BPM, and his goal is to exercise at 60% of HRR, what is his THR?

3. What is the prime mover in a shoulder extension?

4. What is the sliding filament theory?

5. What are the rotator cuff muscles?

6. What are the PRIMARY movement descriptors, and what plane of movement does each move in?

7. What is the job of the sternocleidomastoid?

8. What is the difference between an open-chain exercise and a closed-chain exercise?

9. What does the muscle spindle do?

10. How does direction of resistance relate to desired motion?

If you can answer all of these questions without having to look them up, then go right ahead and take the ACE without studying.

It's your $$ down the drain.

since this is my very first here at EF i'll take the opportunity to agree that the ACE is by no means an easy task. Next to the ACSM certification it's the toughest on the planet.
