Ab Workouts

Ladies,

How long is your ab training? I'm noticing a trend of 10/15 minute ab classes popping up at the gyms in my area. Is this a suitable amount of time for ab training? How often?

I gotta admit, I spent the end 15 minutes on Sunday working abs, and my abs are still burning today. I'm thinking perhaps another 15 minutes is in order.

Any ideas/thoughts/comments?

I only train my abs once a week, 2 exercises. high pulley crunches (with weight), and jack-knife pushups. And y abs kill for days after these 2 exercises

Just as Bunny says "Quality not Quantity".

Try not to focus on the time you spend in each abs session, rather focus on doing them in perfect form (breathing, contraction, extension...).

Generally its just another muscle group like your quads, bis, tris, etc. No reason to train more than 1-2 x /week and also give time to recover. Also you use your "trunk" / core strength constantly with all your other training. At the end of the day, the diet is what will reveal your abs.

I do primarily contraction type exercises for abs and really only about 1x/ week.

Thanks Ladies. At this point I'm just really trying to strengthen my abs/core. I still have several layers of fat so I'm not expecting to see any real results. I hate training abs, but if I know I only have like 10 or 15 minutes worth of work, I will really focus and try to incorporate it more frequently as opposed to NEVER.

Try a Pilates video or add the "Plank" (google it for pics) to your ab workout. The Plank will really help strengthen your core....
