a Question about Sex and Catholicism

jerseyart said:
Homosexuality is more common among preists in the US, not the world. It was specifically because Catholic Bishops were so much more liberal than their counterparts in other countries that we had this problem. It's only a recent development, and hopefully will change if they stoip fighting papal authority

So the Pope couldnt have sex his whole Life right. And priests cant as well.

they cant/couldnt get married either but thats besides the point for me.

Nuns SAY that they are married to god....

but no one ever says who priests are married too.

How do you feel about that?

I know that no sex would cause physical and mental sickness.

What is that sacrifice about?

I would think that god would want us to live life in every natural way possible.

And if a man is wise and holy I would think god would want him to have offspring to pass these traits on.

So no sex makes no sense to me.

Women are part of life (aproximatly 50%, probably more) so how could they think that god would want them to abstain from them and It?

Im just curious as to how people rationalize this .

Remember what happened to Socrates??

Hmmm

Over 90% of the cases that occured werent "pedophilia" in the strictest sense but homosexuality practiced with minors. It doesnt diminish the crime, but lest properly label the affliction.

Requirements for the priesthood used to be to put it kindly more rigorous. As a way to reconcile the Church position against homosexual practice (recall its not a sin to be gay, just engage in homosexual activity) American bishops began encouraging gay men to lead a celibate life in the priesthood, and frankly began accepting candidates to seminary that ordinarily wouldnt have been accepted.

So the US Church in particular began seeing an influx of gay men into siminaries, which also had the unintended consequence of discouraging many hetero men from the calling. Its been a real problem.

The Pope has outlined the need for "vigirous masculine " men in the seminaries (insert all the jokes to follow.) In other words, enough with accepting gays in the priesthood. The Bishops are fighting him on this point, so we'll probably continue to see more of the same in the US Church for quite some time
