I am on a bad-ass mission to help women exude their erotic power (no matter their size) so I recently wrote this blog post:
I have women ask me what I think of vibrators and how in the world any of those sex topics can contribute to weight loss. To be honest, I think vibrators are a great way to explore what pleasures you, but more importantly they are a down and dirty way to relieve stress and dump feel good hormones. I must get a tad nerdy here and explain
Sexual pleasure raises nitric oxide (NO) in the body and once orgasm is achieved NO floods the body and signals it to relax. That relaxation leads to lower cortisol (stress hormone) and higher serotonin (happy feeling neurotransmitter). The opposite of which encourages fat storage. So, the more orgasms the better – right?
You’d be surprised at the history of vibrators
The first vibrators used in the 1860’s were powered by steam. Doctors used them to bring women to orgasm in their offices (sounds kinky, right!). Why? Orgasms were used as treatments for all kinds of so-called female problems, including fatigue, depression, and anxiety. Using a vibrator was faster and required less skill than manual methods that doctors employed before the vibrator invention. We ladies understand their reasoning.
When electric vibrators showed up in movies in the early 1900’s the respectability of this treatment fell from grace (as Christiane Northrop says). Too bad I suppose.
Today, vibrators are available everywhere
With so many to chose from how do you know which to try? First and foremost if you are new to the vibrator world, go shopping. Find a store near you that specializes in adult toys. If you must, act like you are doing research on the subject and ask a sales clerk (often named Bubba or Bubblegum) to show you the ropes. I like this approach much better than online browsing. You can see, feel and experience the whole adult toy arena when fully engaged in a store setting. You might just have fun!
Now what?
Bubba has showed you every embarrassing toy on earth and you have no clue what the fuzzy pink fur on his favorite vibrator would do for you. Choose something that suits your comfort level. Typically there is an entire selection of conservative vibrators that are simple, effective and a great way to start exploring. They don’t need to have fur, be pink or glow in the dark. I mean really, we are adults.
If you want to learn more about the history of vibrators, check out a film called Passion and Power. The documentary film offers surprising facts that call into question all we thought we knew about our bodies, our pleasure, and ultimately our power.
And, enjoy. Really, don’t be shy. It is for the sanity of your weight loss!
Adam & Eve offers a top 10 selling vibrator list that might be helpful.
