Soccer on the moneyline is a three-outcome event, the score at the end of regulation (90 minutes + injury time) will be used for wagering purposes (Pointspread and Moneylines) and does not include results from extra time and penalty shoot-outs.
After barely surviving their second-round matches, Italy and Ukraine get set to meet in the quarter-finals on Friday.
Italy are -170 favourites to win the match Ukraine are +540 underdogs The Draw is priced +240
The Italians capitalized on a questionable penalty decision in the final seconds of regular time to defeat Australia 1-0 in their last 16 match. Ukraine needed a shootout to get past Switzerland in their Round of 16 game.
Francesco Totti was the man to score the spot kick in the 93rd minute to put the Italians in the quarter-finals. Referee Luis Medina Cantalejo’s decision to call a penalty after Fabio Grosso tripped over Lucas Neill’s sliding body in the area may prove to be the most controversial call of the 2006 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Ukraine can feel almost as lucky to be in the quarters. After playing to a scoreless draw for 120 minutes, they defeated Switzerland 3-0 on penalty kicks. It appeared the Ukrainians were in trouble when Andriy Shevchenko was stopped on the first shot by Pascal Zuberbuehler. But Artem Milevskiy, Serhiy Rebrov and Oleg Gusev all stepped up and buried their shots. Ukraine goalkeeper Oleksandr Shovkovskyi performed superbly in the shootout, saving two of three Swiss shots with the third hitting the crossbar.
Both countries have played inconsistently so far in this tournament. At times the Italians and Ukrainians have fired on all cylinders, but on other occasions they’ve both looked unconvincing. Italy have impressed defensively, conceding only one goal in the World Cup (an own goal, no less). Ukraine haven’t conceded a goal since their 4-0 opening match loss to Spain. With both teams playing so well on defence, the first goal of this match could prove to be the game winner.
