A rough start to their 10-game road trip has knocked the Florida Marlins out of first place in the NL East. It won’t get any easier as they now visit one of the toughest stadiums for opposing teams to win.

The Marlins look to get back on track when they open a four-game series against the Atlanta Braves Monday at Turner Field.

Florida (31-24) had a 2 1/2-game lead atop the East when it began its road trip last Monday, but has dropped four of six games since to fall a half-game back of division-leading Philadelphia.

The Marlins are coming off a 7-5 loss to the Phillies on Sunday, and have lost seven of their last nine away from Florida.

“We’ve got to find a way to win these ones,” first baseman Mike Jacobs told the team’s official Web site. “These are the ones we need to win, and we need to do a better job. The bottom line is we’ve got four games in Atlanta, and hopefully we can go over there and take that series.”

Dan Uggla, who was hitless in four at-bats Sunday, is 3-for-25 (.120) with 10 strikeouts through the first six games of the road trip after batting .460 (23-for-50) with eight home runs and 17 RBIs in his previous 14. Uggla is 5-for-17 (.294) with a double, triple and two RBIs in four games against the Braves this season, and is batting .326 (29-for-89) with five home runs, seven doubles and 17 RBIs in 21 career games at Turner Field.

While Uggla has had success at Atlanta, the Braves (29-28) have been nearly unbeatable at home this season.

Atlanta, which opens a seven-game homestand Monday, is 22-7 at Turner Field. The Braves are likely eager to return home after wrapping up a 1-5 road trip with a 6-2 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday.

Atlanta’s bullpen could receive a big boost, as John Smoltz, who has been on the disabled list since April 29 with a sore arm and shoulder, could be activated on Monday.

Chipper Jones, who leads the majors with a .405 batting average, finished the road trip in a 2-for-14 slump, and hopes to get back on track against Florida. He is batting .579 (11-for-19) with three homers and four RBIs in five games versus the Marlins this season, and is 10-for-16 (.625) with two home runs lifetime against Monday’s scheduled starter Scott Olsen (4-2, 3.65 ERA).

Olsen is 0-1 with a 7.08 ERA in his last four outings since his last win on May 6. The left-hander allowed four runs and six hits in five innings of a 7-6, 12-inning loss to the New York Mets on Wednesday.

In his only start of the season against the Braves, Olsen allowed five hits and no walks in seven innings of a 4-0 win on April 15. He improved to 2-4 with a 6.81 ERA in eight career starts versus Atlanta.

The Braves counter with Jo-Jo Reyes (2-3, 4.83), who looks to build off the best start of his career—and get a win.

Reyes allowed one run, two hits and struck out a career-high nine in a career-best seven innings, but was saddled with a 1-0 loss to Milwaukee on Wednesday. The left-hander, who was tagged for eight runs and six hits in an 11-1 loss to Arizona in his previous start on May 23, lowered his ERA by more than a run from 5.84 with Wednesday’s performance.

In his only career start against Florida on Sept. 18, Reyes allowed one run, three hits and struck out seven in five innings of a 4-3 victory.

The Marlins have won three of five over the Braves this season.
