CHW: Contreras(4-0, 1.45 ERA)

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Jose Contreras will attempt to extend both a personal and a team streak on Thursday.

The reigning American League Pitcher of the Month, Contreras will go for a 13th straight win, dating to last season, as the Chicago White Sox seek their 10th consecutive home win in the finale of a two-game series with the Seattle Mariners.

In his last 13 starts, Contreras (4-0, 1.45 ERA) has gone 12-0 with a 1.84 ERA to post the longest active winning streak in the major leagues. His streak does not include last year's postseason, in which he went 3-1 with a 3.09 ERA to help the White Sox to their first World Series title since 1917.

Contreras, who leads the American League in ERA and batting average against (.185), will be facing the Mariners for the second time in his career. On August 27, he limited Seattle to three runs and five hits in seven innings of a 4-3 victory - the second triumph of his winning streak.

The White Sox extended their home winning streak to nine games in dramatic fashion thanks to an unlikely hero Wednesday. Two innings after tying the score in the ninth inning with his first major league homer, Pablo Ozuna legged out a double and scored on Juan Uribe's single to give Chicago a 6-5 triumph.

Mariners closer Eddie Guardado surrendered the two-out home run to Ozuna, marking his third blown save in seven opportunites this season. Guardado also allowed a two-out home run in the ninth inning to rookie Brian Anderson to blow a save on April 24, but Seattle rebounded for a 4-3 triumph in 11 innings.

Anderson hit the first two home runs of his major league career on August 28 against Felix Hernandez (1-3, 5.06), who will make his sixth start of the season Thursday. The 20-year-old Hernandez picked up his first win of 2006 on Saturday despite allowing four runs and a career-high 10 hits in five innings of an 8-6 triumph in Baltimore.

Hernandez allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings of the August 28 game against Chicago, which posted a 5-3 win in 12 innings. Despite winning twice in last week's three-game series, the Mariners have only five victories in the last 19 meetings with the White Sox.
