Carolina at Montreal 7:00 pm EDT Eastern Conference quarterfinals Hurricanes lead, 3-2

MONTREAL (Ticker) - What a difference 10 days have made for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Coming off an improbable string of three consecutive victories, the Hurricanes have a chance to eliminate the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday when the teams meet in Game Six of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

The second-seeded Hurricanes dropped the first two games of the series at home to the seventh-seeded Canadiens but since have reeled off three straight wins - all by one-goal margins.

Carolina became the first home team in the series to record a victory Sunday, posting a 2-1 triumph in Game Five behind power-play goals by Eric Staal and Matt Cullen. Rookie goaltender Cam Ward - who has been in net in each of the last three contests - made 30 saves to earn the victory.

As for the Canadiens, they went 0-for-5 with the man advantage, getting only a second-period tally from Alexei Kovalev. Cristobal Huet made 26 saves for Montreal, which has managed just four goals during the last three games.

If they survive Game Six, the Canadiens will earn themselves a trip back to Carolina for Game Seven on Thursday.
