Devils tangle with rival Rangers

The New Jersey Devils will play host to the New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of their first-round playoff series.

The Devils finished the regular season with a record of 46-27-9, while the Rangers were 44-26-12 on the year.

Oddsmakers set New Jersey as -215 home favorites on the opening line, with an opening total of 5.5 goals.

New Jersey took the season series from New York, posting a record of 4-3-1-0 against the Rangers this season.

The Devils come into this game as the hottest team in the NHL, ending the season on an 11-game winning streak to roar back and steal the Atlantic Divison from both the Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Rangers' offence will be led by Jaromir Jagr, who finished second in the league in both goals (54) and points (123). The Devils meanwhile will hope for continued offensive prowess from Brian Gionta, who scored a franchise record 48 goals this season. Rookie Henrik Lundqvist will likely earn the nod in goal for New York while perennial all-star Martin Brodeur will tend the twine for New Jersey.
