I just think you may be doing a little too much of a pyramid.
To answer your question when you hit failure on deads you can't pick up the weight. Or you maybe able to get it off the ground but then can't move it much more.
scotsman - yeah, i did find failure today the second time i tried 305. wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be. squat failure (which i hit almost 2 weeks ago when i first tried 315) is a bit riskier, IMO. at least i was set up in the power rack for squat failure.
pyramiding it - i could've probably started off at 135 and went up from there. i wanted the lengthy warmup. might've been a bit of overkill for deads though, so i'll keep that in mind in 4 or 5 months when i try for PRs again.
Beast - vids sometime this summer, definetly (in response to what you posted on another thread). it'll be easier to do over the summer. i'm taking 2 classes, so i'll have access to the gym the 4 days/week i'm going to be on campus. i expect the place to be completely empty too, which means i can just grab a box or a bench, sit my digital camera down on it, and start taping. i need a good critique of my deadlifting form anyway for the subtle things i'm probably not noticing that i'm doing wrong.
thanks again to everyone.
considering my length of time training and my overall body size, i don't think i'm doing too bad strength wise. going to take some measurements in the next few days, as i havn't taken "official" measurements in months.
i am soooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. my back muscles have been sore from deads or stiff leg deads before, but this is all up in my traps.

bran - yeah, i'm a short guy. it sucks most of the time. i think us short guys, however, have a bit of an advantage. if you look at me at 170lbs and look at someone 6' at the same weight, i've got some muscle on me while the 6' tall guy is a bean pole. but other than that, it really sucks when i need to get something off the top of the cabinets that's been pushed back and i have to get a chair.
Lord_Suston - thanks. progress is great to see. what blows my mind is guys that i saw last semester in the gym are only lifting slightly more now or exactly the same weights. when i see that, i realize why i've put so much into all of this....eating right (most of the time) and making sure my routine is solid. i've talked to other guys in the gym about proper diet, rest, and having a solid routine before. i get looked at like "if you know so much, why are you so small?" because a lot of them are bigger and stronger than i am. but i'm making progress, a lot of them are not. i never sit there and say "you're doing this wrong or that wrong" or try to criticize them, it's always friendly conversation. i've found very few people in my gym that actually put effort into their diet and understand that it will be a key factor in their growth (or lack thereof).
