Ottawa (41-14-5) at Florida (23-29-9) 7:00 pm EST
SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) - The Ottawa Senators had to be sulking when All-Star goaltender Dominik Hasek was injured last month. But his backup has given the team a Ray of hope.
Ray Emery tries to lead the Senators to their sixth straight victory Wednesday when they hook up with the Florida Panthers, who have not enjoyed much success in the series of late.
A two-time Hart Trophy winner, Hasek injured his adductor muscle while competing for the Czech Republic in last month's Winter Olympics. The future Hall of Famer seemingly left the Senators with a gaping hole in net, but Emery has eased the team's concerns.
The 23-year-old rookie has won five straight starts, including all four since the Olympic break. He has a 1.60 goals-against average during his winning streak.
Emery made 31 saves for his second shutout of the season in Monday's 4-0 triumph over Tampa Bay. Antoine Vermette, Jason Spezza, Mike Fisher and Peter Schaefer scored for the Senators, who are looking for their first six-game winning streak since November 17-29.
Ottawa has owned Florida of late, winning five straight meetings overall and eight straight matchups here.
The Panthers have dropped their last three contests following Friday's 4-3 shootout defeat against Atlanta despite two goals and an assist by captain Olli Jokinen, who is a likely candidate to be dealt before Thursday's trade deadline.
