EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) - The New Jersey Devils' perennial success against the New York Rangers apparently did not survive the lockout.

The first-place Rangers look to win their eighth straight game overall and continue their strong play against the Devils this season when the Atlantic Division rivals hook up Saturday.

New Jersey posted a 3-2 overtime triumph over New York on October 8 to improve to a startling 24-3 with 13 ties in the last 40 meetings. However, the Rangers have rebounded to win four of the last five encounters with the Devils as part of their surge to the top spot in the division.

New York, which has not made the playoffs since 1997, fended off a potential first-place tie by pounding Philadelphia, 6-1, on Thursday. MVP candidate Jaromir Jagr collected two goals and an assist and Martin Rucinsky added a tally and set up another.

Michael Nylander, Blair Betts and Jason Ward also scored for the Rangers, who received 36 saves from Kevin Weekes.

New Jersey is coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Islanders on Thursday. Scott Gomez and Jay Pandolfo scored in regulation for the Devils, who have played four straight one-goal games - none of which have featured more than five total tallies.

Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur allowed a pair of goals in the shootout and remains one victory shy of his 10th consecutive 30-win season.
