Florida (23-28-8) at Carolina (40-14-4) 7:00 pm EST

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - Owners of the best home record in the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes will try to keep that trend alive Friday when they host the Florida Panthers.

The Hurricanes dropped the opener of a four-game homestand before rebounding with back-to-back 4-3 wins over Buffalo and Boston.

Defenseman Aaron Ward's second goal with less than five minutes remaining was the decisive tally in Wednesday's win over the Bruins. Defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky and Ray Whitney added goals for Carolina, which improved to 25-5-1 at the RBC Center.

The impressive mark has the Hurricanes one victory shy of matching the franchise record for victories at home in a season. The 1986-87 Hartford Whalers won 26 games at the Hartford Civic Center.

After wrapping up a 2-2-0 road trip with an impressive 8-2 rout of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday, the Panthers lost that offensive touch in a 1-0 loss to Montreal on Thursday.

Roberto Luongo made 26 saves but was given no scoring support as Florida failed on seven power-play opportunities and remained 10 points behind the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Carolina has won all four meetings between the teams this season, the last three by one goal. Erik Cole's shootout goal was the difference in a 4-3 victory January 25.
