Dallas (54-17) at Cleveland (41-29) 7:00 pm EST
CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- LeBron James can set a franchise scoring record and help end his team's lengthy playoff drought.
James tries to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first postseason berth in eight years Wednesday when they meet the Dallas Mavericks.
The league's third-leading scorer, James needs just six points to surpass the team's single-season record (2,175) he set a year ago. He has led the team in scoring in nine straight games, averaging 34.2 points during that stretch.
Looking to clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 1998, the Cavaliers are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, four games ahead of Washington.
James scored 36 points and Damon Jones added 22 off the bench for Cleveland, which won its fifth consecutive game with Sunday's 104-102 overtime triumph over the Houston Rockets.
Dallas has dropped three of its last five contests and remains in a dogfight with San Antonio. The Mavericks trail the Spurs by one game for the top spot in the Southwest Division and the Western Conference.
Dirk Nowitzki and Jerry Stackhouse scored 25 points each and Keith Van Horn added 18 for Dallas in Tuesday's 97-90 loss to the Detroit Pistons.
Dallas has won nine of the last 10 encounters with Cleveland, including a 91-87 win in their last matchup March 14. However, the Cavaliers have won their last six home games.
