New Orleans (32-36) at Utah (32-37) 9:00 pm EST

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- A pair of teams just on the outside of the Western Conference playoff picture look to make up ground Monday when the Utah Jazz host the slumping New Orleans Hornets.

The Jazz trail Sacramento (35-35) by 2 1/2 games for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Hornets are just two in back of the Kings, but the way they have been playing of late, it seems like so much more.

Since matching their season-best mark of six games above .500 (31-25) on February 22, the Hornets have lost 11 of their last 12 games to fall from as high as the sixth spot out West into the ninth.

The Hornets' freefall continued Sunday as they dropped a 105-94 road contest to the Los Angeles Lakers. David West collected 23 points and 10 rebounds and Rookie Chris Paul added 17 points for the Hornets.

Utah has not been much better, dropping six of its last eight games. The Jazz are in peril of missing the playoffs for the third straight season after making it the previous 20 seasons.

Utah had a golden opportunity Saturday to gain ground on its playoff quest, but lost here against the Kings, 91-89. Andrei Kirilenko recorded his second career triple-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocks.

The Hornets and Jazz split their only two meetings of the season, a home-and-home series February 22 and 25 in which the road team won each game.
