AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- While the New Jersey Nets have an impressive winning streak to brag about, it pales in comparison to the one the Detroit Pistons carry into Sunday's contest.
The Pistons are shooting for their 17th straight home victory as they close in on the franchise record of 21 games, set from January 21-April 23, 1989. Meanwhile, the Nets have won seven straight overall - the longest current winning streak in the league.
Owners of the NBA's best record, Detroit is coming off a 75-72 triumph over Indiana on Friday as Richard Hamilton scored 15 points and Antonio McDyess and Tayshaun Prince added 11 apiece.
However, the biggest play in the game was Ben Wallace's block of rookie Danny Granger's 3-pointer at the buzzer to preserve Detroit's fourth straight win.
The Pistons have allowed an average of only 76.3 points over their last three contests, but they will have their work cut out for them against a Nets team that has averaged 97.5 points over its last four games.
New Jersey is coming off Thursday's 86-82 win against Minnesota as Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson scored 21 points each. Jason Kidd contributed 17 points and nine assists for the Nets, who have dropped 19 of their last 21 visits to Detroit, including an 85-71 loss on February 14.
