Atlanta (27-26-6) at Boston (24-25-10) 7:00 pm EST
BOSTON (Ticker) - The Atlanta Thrashers and Boston Bruins may be separated by only two points in the standings, but they appear to be headed in different directions.
Rookie goaltender Kari Lehtonen hopes to lead the Thrashers to their fourth straight victory Thursday when they skate with the Boston Bruins, who are looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat for the first time in more than three months.
Making his 11th straight start Wednesday, Lehtonen made 25 of his 34 saves in the final two periods as Atlanta recorded a 4-2 victory over Buffalo.
Brad Larsen scored two goals and Vyacheslav Kozlov and defenseman Niclas Havelid added power-play tallies for the Thrashers, who won for the fourth time in five games following a seven-game losing streak.
The win moved Atlanta within two points of Montreal for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Thrashers never have qualified for the postseason in their brief history.
Meanwhile, Boston sits two points behind Atlanta following its 4-3 loss to Carolina on Wednesday. Marco Sturm, defenseman David Tanabe and Sergei Samsonov scored for the Bruins, who have gone 0-for-10 on the power play over their last three games - all losses.
Boston has not dropped four straight since a six-game skid from November 8-20.
The Bruins posted a 3-2 triumph over the Thrashers on January 24 as P.J. Axelsson scored the game-winner in the third period to help Boston improve to 3-0 with one tie in its last four meetings with Atlanta.
