No. 10 NC State (22-9) at No. 2 Texas (28-6) 4:45 pm EST
DALLAS (Ticker) -- Now that P.J. Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge are into the swing of things for the NCAA Tournament, Texas can focus on a return to the regional semifinals.
Tucker and the second-seeded Longhorns face No. 10 North Carolina State in the second round of the Atlanta Region on Sunday.
Due to academic problems for Tucker and a hip injury for Aldridge, both players were absent when Texas struggled down the stretch last season before falling to then-No. 9 Nevada in the opening round.
Back with the club, Tucker and Aldridge played a major role in the Longhorns avoiding another early exit, combining for 36 points and 22 rebounds in a 60-52 victory over Pennsylvania on Friday.
While the duo shot 13-of-25 (52 percent), the rest of the team floundered, making just 5-of-25 (20 percent) attempts.
Getting one win under their belt, the Longhorns (28-6) now seek to return to the "Sweet 16," a round they were a regular visitor to just a couple of seasons ago. Before last season's first-round loss, Texas had reached the regional semifinals in three straight years.
Standing in its way will be a Wolfpack club that turned around a bad stretch at the right time.
Entering its matchup with No. 7 California on a four-game losing streak, North Carolina State (22-9) shot 50 percent (21-of-42) and Cameron Bennerman hit a 3-pointer with 32 seconds left to pull out a 58-52 victory.
Bennerman, a key member of last season's run to the regional semifinals, scored 18 points and Cedric Simmons added 12 and six boards for the Wolfpack, who overcame a 25-23 deficit on the glass.
This is the third career matchup between the schools. N.C. State won the previous meeting at home in 1987 to even it at a game apiece.
The winner will meet either West Virginia or Northwestern State in the Atlanta Regional semifinals on Thursday.
