No. 9 Bucknell (27-4) at No. 1 Memphis (31-3) 2:15 pm EST
DALLAS (Ticker) -- Rodney Carney and top-seeded Memphis aim to reach the regional semifinals for the first time in 11 years when they face No. 9 Bucknell on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament's Oakland Region.
Carney scored 19 points to pace five players in double figures Friday as the Tigers posted a 94-78 triumph over No. 16 seed Oral Roberts in the first round.
It was the 20th victory in the last 21 games for Memphis, which has not advanced to the "Sweet 16" since 1995 and has not reached the Final Four since 1985.
Shawne Williams and Darius Washington Jr. scored 14 points apiece and freshman reserve Andre Allen sank three 3-pointers during a pivotal 15-0 run in the first half which gave Memphis a 49-35 lead 76 seconds before the break.
"There is a star born in every one of these games and today it was Andre Allen," Tigers coach John Calipari said. "We had nine guys in double figures (in minutes) and there were a lot of guys doing good things. There was definitely excitement out there; a lot of scoring."
Memphis figures to have a tougher time scoring against a Bucknell squad which limits opponents to just 55.3 points per game.
Charles Lee scored a career-high 24 points and fellow senior Kevin Bettencourt added 18 Friday as the Bison held on for a 59-55 triumph against eighth-seeded Arkansas.
Bucknell, which captured the nation's heart by upsetting third-seeded Kansas in the first round last year, can become just the fourth No. 9 seed to upset a top seed in NCAA history.
