SUNRISE, Florida (Ticker) -- Now is not the time for the New York Islanders to have their special teams come up short.
The Islanders try to bounce back after the end of their four-game winning streak when they continue their five-game road swing Friday against the Florida Panthers.
Scoreless on their last 28 power-play opportunities, the Islanders are tied with Toronto for 10th place in the Eastern Conference, five points in back of Montreal for the final playoff berth.
Alexei Yashin scored his 22nd goal and Shawn Bates added his 13th for the Islanders, who surrendered a shorthanded tally in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers.
Florida posted three straight impressive victories over Eastern powers Ottawa and Carolina before suffering its eighth shutout loss of the season, Wednesday's 4-0 defeat to the Philadelphia Flyers.
The teams have not met since the Islanders posted a 4-3 victory over the Panthers on January 4. Oleg Kvasha scored twice and added an assist and Mark Parrish netted the game-winner in the extra session.
