However, some of the most intricate bass playing on the first album/CD is by Patrick O'Hearn(formerly with the Frank Zappa Band) on the fretless on "Hold on to the Nights". Too bad they left Patrick a bit too low in the mix for most people to really hear what he is doing.
As for the guitar work-studio ace Michael Landau is all over the first record, along with Bruce Gaitch (Madona colaborator) and a guest appearance by none other than Joe Walsh.
They didn't save money when it came to getting the top players to play on his records.
Just to name a few:
Drums & Percussion: Jeff Porcaro, Terry Bozzio, Jonathan Moffett, Tommy Lee, Prairie Prince, Tris Imboden, John Keane, Russ Kunkel, Mike Baird, John Robinson...
Percussions: Paulinho De Costa, Alex Acuna, Chris Trujillo, Luis Conte...
Guitars: Michael Landau, Bruce Gaitch, Steve Lukather, Joe Walsh, Paul Warren, Michael Thompson...
Bass: Marcus Miller, Nathan East, Randy Jackson, Leland Sklar, John Pierce, Patrick O'Hearn, Jon Chemay...
Keyboards: Greg Phillinganes, Billy Joel, Bill Champlin, Tom Keane, Michael Omartian, Bill Payne...
Background vocals: Lionel Richie, Luther Vandross, Randy Meisner, Timothy B. Scmidt, Bill Champlin, Vince Gill, Bobby Kimball...
And all the top session horn player from Tom Scott to Jerry Hey.
