2 1/2's under the feet for SLDL's?

Somebody said putting some 2 1/2 plates under your feet will help you arch your back and help with form on SLDL's, anybody know anything about this? All the SLDL's I've been doing seem to hit my back more than my hams for some reason, not sure why but I'm trying my damnedest to keep my back arched, my head looking forward etc.. Any advice otherwise or to the contrary?

This may sound crazy, but for stiffies, i find rather than my form, the most important thing is to really try and concentrate on my hams contracting.

Part of what helps me concentrate is i dont think about pivoting around my lower back/hip, but instead think about coming forward with my hips and pulling down with my hammies.

As for putting 2.5 plates under, i dont know anything about it, but maybe it just cuts down on overall angle and hence you don't need to be as flexible, and hence you can more easily keep your back nice..

Anybody got other advice on this? I was told I shouldn't feel much effort in my lower back at all when doing these and I should feel it all in my hams. Having a really hard time getting the right form.

Stiffies??? LOL..good one fatty.

Personally, I would never put anything under my heels for any excercise. Think about it, all this will do is shift more pressure to the front of your foot, thus easing the pressur on your hams.

Keep working on your form. For SLDLs, you don't have to keep your back as arched as you would for a regular dead. Just make sure your back is straight, and that you're keeping the movement controlled.

Well, plates under your heels would seem to pitch you forward some, and you want to pull back, so it seems counter-productive

If anything i would think putting the plates under the ball of the foot to give you more stretch. "Stiffies" haha will definately work the lower back just as much if not more depending on what is stronger. I always try to concentrate on pushing my legs through the floor to lift me up rather than pick my upper body up from the lower back. Whenever I break a personal best in a "Stiffie" my back is without question hit real hard and I do "Stiffies" with great form. I actually stand up on a block to give me even more stretch.

My advice to you if your new at "Stiffies" work them light for a while but not too light. too light makes form hard too. Work your way into it, You'll get it.
