COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) - Two teams mired in terrible slumps collide when the Chicago Blackhawks visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday in a Central Division matchup.
The Blackhawks have lost five of their last six games, including a devastating 3-2 overtime loss to Detroit on Friday in which they blew a 2-0 lead in the final 39 seconds of regulation. Chicago then surrendered the game-winning goal with two-tenths of a second left in overtime.
Tyler Arnason scored with 40 seconds left in the opening period and Martin Lapointe added a goal in the second for the Blackhawks, who saw goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin make 34 saves in the team's third straight loss.
Columbus gave up four first-period scores Friday and came up just short in its comeback effort in a 5-4 home loss to Nashville - the team's sixth straight defeat.
Rookie Jaroslav Balastik recorded his first two-goal game and has three scores in his last two contests. Defenseman Adam Foote recorded two assists for the Blue Jackets, who have a league-low 19 points.
