Shogun is going to tap in the second round.
There's some subtle things that are apparent from karate in his combat techniques. His stance is one.
Though, truly, the kicks and punches that are practical from karate are also used in muay thai, etc.
I have yet to see someone land a hatchet kick to the face, lol.
yeah mild influence is visible once in a while, but I wouldnt touch the thought that it was his base with a ten foot pole.
Especially not with his black belt in jiu jitsu
Perhaps it is. That's what he says. I do karate, and that's it. If I learned to grapple and submit as I plan to (even as a black belt jiu jitsu), I would still claim karate was my base martial art.
He's mainly a striker, obviously, and I can see the karate there plainly.
Once you get into a real fight at this level though, only the effective things get used. And the effective things all look the same no matter what style you train.
A leg kick is a leg kick. A jab or a 1-2 is always the same.
The guys that go far can also submit as well as be a good striker. Either that or they work on never being taken down or ALWAYS go for the takedown.
Machida is one of my favorites and I hope he wins. His elusivity is something I like, and I think karate is a part of the reason for why he is so elusive on his feet. And when you are fighting another striker, it goes a really long way. Also, if you can't get taken to the ground, a jiu jitsu practioner or wrestler is gonna get destroyed. Add the fact that Machida is also pretty dang good on the ground and you end up with a top level pro.
Boxers and wrestlers/grapplers are not so elusive. They're used to getting "in your face" and need that takedown to get the job done.
I'd like to see Anderson Silva move to 205. That guy just plain fucks people up.
If you watch the fight carefully, Machida countered almost everytime shogun through a punch. I'm a huge Machida fan and I walked out of Boston Pizza at the end of the 5th rnd because I thought Machida lost, but when I watched it again on MUTE I realized how close it actually was. It was the hype of expecting Machida to dominate that made him look so bad. Also, to defeat a champion you must TAKE the belt from him. Shogun didn't deserve to TAKE the belt. With a more dominate performance he would. The next fight should surely be interesting as Shogun as bad-blood since he and many fans believes he should have won and Machida definitely didn't like being hit that much since before that he had never lost a round and averaged getting hit like once or twice per 2 rounds. It will be a great fight.
I second the motion for Anderson Silva to move up. He wont fight machida because theyre buds but I say fuck it.
But more importantly, if you also watch the fight closely, Shogun threw minimal punches the entire fight. It was about turning Machidas leg into ground beef and he did that. He had the better strategy and he executed, plain an simple.
In my opinion, Shogun was the better fighter. He beat the champion.
