Florida (3-0) at No. 16 Syracuse (3-0), 9:00 pm EST
NEW YORK (Ticker) -- One day after turning 61, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim can pick up a true birthday present at the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.
The 16th-ranked Orange can open the season with their fourth straight victory and capture the tournament crown for the second consecutive season Friday when they face Florida at Madison Square Garden.
Syracuse got off to a blistering start Thursday by scoring 17 of the first 19 points en route to an 81-46 rout of Texas Tech. Big East Preseason Player of the Year Gerry McNamara made three 3-pointers, finishing with 12 points and nine assists.
Demetris Nichols and Eric Devendorf scored 11 points each and Louie McCrosky added 10 for the Orange, who shot nearly 52 percent (33-of-64) from the floor and outscored the Red Raiders, 47-24, in the second half.
The win gave Boeheim his fourth victory in five matchups with fellow Hall of Famer, Bob Knight. The lone loss came in the 1987 NCAA Championship game when Knight won his third national title with Indiana.
Taurean Green scored a career-high 23 points, more than doubling his previous mark, leading Florida to a 77-72 triumph over Wake Forest in the other semifinal.
Corey Brewer scored 15 points and Al Horford added 11 for the Gators, who are back in the title game for the first time since losing to Arizona in 2001.
In the only prior meeting between the teams, Syracuse defeated Florida in the Sweet 16 on its way to the 1987 NCAA championship game.
