The Boise State Broncos and the Oklahoma Sooners will both be gunning for a victory on New Year's Day when they meet at University of Phoenix Stadium for the Fiesta Bowl.

Oddsmakers currently have the Sooners listed as 7½-point favorites versus the Broncos, while the game's total is sitting at 50.

The Broncos pounded the Nevada Wolf Pack 38-7 last time out to finish the season undefeated. Boise State easily covered the 2.5-point spread and the combined 45 points fell UNDER the posted total of 55.

Ian Johnson returned to the lineup and was brilliant in rushing for three touchdowns off 31 carries with a total of 146 yards on the ground as the Broncos became just the second non-BCS conference team to advance to a major bowl game.

The Sooners allowed just 83 yards rushing as they toppled the Nebraska Cornhuskers 21-7 last time out. Oklahoma won the game as a 3.5-point favorite, covering the spread and the final score fell well UNDER the posted total of 45.

Malcolm Kelly caught 10 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns for the Sooners.

If not for that bogus call 1-point loss versus Oregon Oklahoma is 12-1 and competing for the national championship. If I have any winners early in the day I'm loading up the truck on this one.

As far as the Broncos have come, this fact has not gone away: they have never beaten a big-six conference team away from their blue home turf. They're 0-12, and several of those games were over early.

Last time they got a shot like this it was the 2005 season opener at Georgia, ranked 13th at the time. By halftime quarterback Jared Zabransky had turned the ball over six times by himself and Boise was down 24-0. That ballooned to 38-0 in the third quarter. Final score: a credibility-crippling 48-13.
