WASHINGTON (Ticker) - The Atlanta Thrashers hope to continue their improbable surge toward the postseason when they visit the Washington Capitals on Monday.
The Thrashers have won four straight and trail the eighth-place Tampa Bay Lightning (43-32-6) by just three points in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Atlanta needs two victories and a regulation loss by Tampa Bay on Tuesday to clinch a playoff berth.
Andy Sutton scored the game-winning goal Saturday as the Thrashers rallied for a 4-3 triumph over the Boston Bruins.
Sutton had two tallies and an assist while Scott Mellanby added a goal and an assist for the Thrashers, who trailed after two periods, 3-2.
Atlanta aims to keep alive its postseason aspirations against a Washington club that has dropped five of its last seven.
