DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche are breathing a little easier now that Joe Sakic appears to be out of his scoring slump.

Coming off a two-goal outing on Tuesday, Sakic leads the Avalanche against the Dallas Stars in the third contest of a five-game homestand Thursday.

A 17-year veteran, Sakic ended an a 11-game drought with a pair of tallies in a five-goal second period of Tuesday's 7-4 triumph over the Calgary Flames. He now has 561 career goals, one more than Hall of Famer Guy LaFleur.

Goaltender David Aebischer tied Patrick Roy's franchise record with eight wins in January for Colorado, which has won nine of 11 games.

Dallas has a three-point lead over Los Angeles in the Pacific Division race and is 16-5-1 on the road this season.

Jussi Jokinen scored the shootout clincher and the Stars tied a season high with 41 shots on goal in Wednesday's 4-3 victory over the St. Louis. Dallas has won all six shootouts and eight of its last 11 contests.

After losing to Colorado in the second game of the campaign, Dallas evened the season series with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Avalanche on November 5.
