Carolina (34-11-4) at Atlanta (23-21-6) 7:00 pm EST
ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Captain Rod Brind'Amour and the red-hot Carolina Hurricanes look to continue rolling through the Southeast Division when they visit the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday in the opener of a home-and-away series.
The Hurricanes own an 18-point lead over the second-place Tampa Bay Lightning in the Southeast standings and are 9-5-1 this season against divisional opponents.
Carolina rallied for a 4-3 shootout victory over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday due to Brind'Amour, who netted a pair of game-tying goals in the contest.
Brind'Amour's second tally came with just over a minute remaining in regulation and forced overtime. Erik Cole eventually scored in the shootout to lift the Hurricanes to their fifth straight victory.
Carolina looks to extend its winning streak against an Atlanta team which has dropped three straight since a franchise-record five-game winning streak.
The NHL's sixth-best offense, the Thrashers have managed a total of just two goals over their last two games.
Marc Savard and Scott Mellanby tallied Tuesday, but Atlanta dropped a 3-2 decision to the Boston Bruins.
