SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- Steady improvement over the past seven weeks has moved the San Jose Sharks back in the hunt for the postseason.

The Sharks try to win their third consecutive game against a California rival Thursday when they host the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in their fourth meeting of the season.

The trade for Joe Thornton following a 10-game losing streak November 30 sparked a turnaround for San Jose, which is 10-1-2 in its last 13 home games and tied with Anaheim for third place in the Pacific Division.

Patrick Marleau scored twice to reach the 20-goal plateau for the fifth consecutive season to lead the Sharks in Tuesday's 4-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings, completing a sweep of a home-and-away series.

Jonathan Cheechoo can set a franchise-record with points in 13 consecutive games, breaking the mark first set by Rob Gaudreau in December, 1992. He has 10 goals and nine assists during his run.

Anaheim has dropped two straight games and four of six overall, including Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Chris Kunitz scored the team's first goal for the third time in four games and Teemu Selanne netted a pair for the Mighty Ducks, who surrendered four tallies in the third period.

Cheechoo scored on a penalty shot on his way to a hat trick as San Jose defeated Anaheim for the second time in three encounters this season, a 4-2 victory on December 20.
