    Help with Lifting Schedule

I agree, you could even do a 3x5 and do well. I don't know why so many guys complicate things. Below has served me well and you learn to make adjustments along the way, such as varying the reps. Alternate the following MWF: A: olympic squats, bench, pendlay rows, standing OH press B...

    HST Routine?

Close, I'd do this though, you can't go wrong with it, alternate MWF: A: olympic back squat, bench, pendlay row, standing OH press B: conventional deadlift, dips, chins, standing OH press eat & sleep enough and you should be able to extend the 5's for a few more weeks.

Who Here Has Done The HST Routine And What Are Your Thoughts?

I love the program, had great results finally. Watch your calories and don't try to gain more than a 1/2 a week, keep a journal. Results seem to be better when you have a decent strength base.

    Weight Gain and your Face

Don't over do the eating. Keep a journal with your daily caloric intake and shoot to gain 1/2 pound a week. As long as you're lifting progressively heavier weights, then most of the weight gained should be LBM.

    I did it...

congrats on the PR petpre61! I've been working on improving the second pull by doing everything from a hang also. I start just above the knee though.

    Squat Farts

Where I lift there is a nationally ranked olympic lifter who trains there also. I asked him to watch my form and give me some tips on clean pulls. So, I grab the bar, pull off the floor and just as I start the 2nd pull I crank one out. Great, the only time it's ever happened and it has to...

Post your best advice you would give a fellow iron soldier

Olympic squat, deadlift, bench, Pendlay row, dips, chins, standing OH press, squat cleans. Eat, sleep and repeat. Get as strong as possible in each lift, doing full-body workouts with only 3-4 exercises per workout, while eating above maintenance. Do not work to failure and of course, don't...

Morons at the gym (the official thread)...

A PT at the gym was teaching a client how to clean and press the other day. Well, that's what he told the client he was teaching. He had him pull the bar from the floor and then upright row it, then quickly bring his elbows under the bar. He told him to do an upright row. What's so pathetic...

    Newbie to HST!

I think you've got too many exercises. I've done very well with the following A&B alternating workouts MWF: A: olympic squats, bench, pendlay rows, standing OH press B: deadlifts, dips, chins, OH press I do something very similar now, but I don't alternate like before, I do workout A Monday...

    Hitting plateau on gains ....

Do as suggested earlier, go to the sticky about 3x5, follow it to the letter and eat more. As you gain weight your caloric intake will also increase. Increase calories slowly until you are gaining again.

Anyone Use HST principles for training??

I've had great success with it and finally pulled 500 while doing HST. There are diminishing returns though because IMO, the strength gains, while good, are not enough for continued long term progress. It helps to alternate HST cycles with a 3x5 or 5x5 type of routine focused on strength...

The Worst Weight-Training injury you've had

I couldn't do any pressing, overhead work, snatches or cleans for a month. I had to wrap my wrists for a couple of weeks, but they're almost 100% now.
