Hi all
Amongst the books I read before starting my cycle there was one about nutrition recommended by a vet at my gym.
It is called "Ultimate Nutrition - the book" by
Bernard Beverley and Arthur Fairhurst.
Here is an interesting section from this book about bitch tits:
(ignore typo's I had to type this in!)
Bitch tits are usually caused by an excessive level of androgen converting to estorgen. Testosterone is androgenic as well as being anabolic. This is almost asways the main problem area. Steroids raise testosterone, which is why you take them. However, it's the anabloic effect you want, not the androgenic effect. The solution to the problem lies in the prevention of the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, the most poweful androgen. You have something of a catch 22 situation here. You want higher levels of testosterone, but you want to avoid any of it, or at least some of it converting to DHT, and subsequently to estrgoen.
Fortuanately, there is a way. DHT is produced from testosterone, by the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. It's this enzyme which stimulates the mutation. Block this enzyme, and you largely prevent testosterone converting to DHT. This allows full benefit of the anabloic action, whilst avoiding the down side of the androgenic effect. 5-alpha reductase can be blocked in two ways. Very recently a new drug has come into prominence, for use in the treatment of prostate problems. They are caused by the lowering of testosterone in a male, as he gets older. Accompanying this decline, many men get an increase in DHT. The prostate swells, blocks the urinary passage, and you can't pass urine. This new drug prevents this happening. It does so by blocking the action of 5-alpha reductase. The drug is called Finasteride. Finasteride neutralises 5-alpha reductase, thereby eliminating most, if not all of the androgen DHT. This would be great news but for one thing. As with all drugs, there are side effects. With Finasteride, the ratio of side effects is actually low for a drug. But still present. The main side effect is Impotence. You can't get an erection.
That for many could be a problem, physically, not say socially. So, for some men, it's a non starter.
Now for the good news.
Everything just stated about Finasteride can be duplicated with a natural substance - ZINC. Zinc blokes the action of 5-alpha reductase. As you may know this mineral is often prescribed and referred to in any problem with the Prostate gland (?). Of the many things that Zinc does, it also, we now know, prevents testosterone converting into dihydrostestosterone, by blocking the action of the enzyme that casues the conversion. That being the case, it would be a sound action to up your intake of Zinc if you are using any Steroid. Some steroids are actually derived from DHT, as mentioned earlier (Winstorl, Primobolin) so you must offset the possible side effect of an increase in estrogen which causes gynecomastia. Zinc is the way I'd recommend you do it. It's a good idea to take Zinc as part of your overall diet at any time. If you're taking steroids, it would be prudent to increase it. Anywhere from 60 to 100mg a day for about 8 weeks is in order. Then halve that amount thereafter. That's to maintain mineral balance, and especially with regard to Selenium. This level of intake is compatible with this principle of keeping a balance. "
Phew!
By the way, unfortunately there is nothing in the book to let me know when the latest edition was published.
