I was reading the post about weighted push-ups, and I was wondering:

What's the most amount of pushups (unweighted) you've ever done in a row? One set.

I have a terrible strength:weight ratio, so my best was 50....

.... however, you have to consider the technique. I have my hands far enough apart so that when my upper arms are parallel to the ground, my elbow is at exactly 90 degree. Toes together, and penis, nipples and nose all have to touch the ground together for it to be a complete rep.

You didn't mention a time limit. In the Army the PT test calls for as many correct push-ups you can do in two minutes. The form is as you described it, upper arms must be parallel to the ground at the bottom of the movement, feet no more than 12" apart, body in a straight line. You are allowed to rest, just can't lift your hands off of the ground.
I had a PT test last week, I did 80 pushups, 65 before I stopped at 1 min, could only do 3-4 at a time after that (lactic acid build-up).

25 IN THE MORNING WHEN I WAKE UP.
25 AT NIGHT WHEN I GO TO BED.
I CAN TELL A BIG DEFFERENCE IN MY PEC DEVELOPMENT AS WELL AFTER ONLY 2 WEEKS

147

Set my high school record, while I was a junior, during our yearly presidential physical fitness test, did 147, that was quite a while ago though......

I've never tried, the reps get to high to be of much value.

How many times can you rep a 20IB dumbbell? who cares enough to know that I shouldn't be bothering with that weight.

See how many you can do after doing 5 set of bench. Great superset. :) That shit really kicks the shit out of my pecs.

anyone with decent strength and endurance could do over 80. I've done 83 the last time I maxed in march, and I could probably do over 90 now.

Aren't you laughing your ass off at these numbers. The most I've ever seen or heard a guy do in the Army in 12 years is 134 in 2 minutes. Some of them probably shouldn't have counted either so I would say that number is inflated. I did 112 in 2 minutes but probably shouldn't have gotten 10 or so of them counted. I'm not saying more can't be done but a lot of experience gets me questioning a bit.

There was a time early in my college career where a guy got a reputation for being able to do 2 sets of 100 pushups each. I set out a goal to do this and at one point was able to get to 100 pushups, but the 2nd set was always never came close to 100.

On a side note:

The longest record for non-stop pushups:

Charles Linster (USA) 6,006 05-Oct-1965
Robert Louis Knecht (USA) 7,026 05-Feb-1976
Henry C. Marshal (USA) 7,650 01-Sep-1977
Minoru Yoshida (JAP) 10,507 Oct-1980

10k pushups that is insane...

http://www.recordholders.org/en/list/ulysses.html

I used to do 300 finger tip pushups every morning... in sets of 50. Once I got to the point I could do it... it was very easy. 300 flew by... and it didn't even take 5 minutes to do all the sets. Occasionally, I'd do it in sets of 100.

Something wierd happens when you do this every day. It's really hard to work your way up to it... but then once you can do it it and do it every day it is really easy and just flies by.

Air Force PT test required as many correct pushups as possible in one minute, I pushed out around 66 on my last PT test. Not bad, But I think I could do plenty more with no time limit.

I never actually tried to do push ups until I dropped, but in two minutes my best was 58... officially.

I suck at pushups... I'm working to break 65 by early June for a test I have to take. It's hard incorporating them with Madcow's.

Yeah, most people have to rest at the one minute mark, and then the lactic acid starts to build up. Even if you did one per second it would only be 60 at the one minute mark.

157. Not slow as ones either, no resting near the end. Just steady pace until complete failure.

I some times do over 500 in a day just banging off sets of 100 whenever I get the chance. The highest I've been able to do this month is 127. I don't have a particularly strong bench press either, I'm more of an enduro guy with a good power to weight ratio. Push ups, chin ups, and most body weight exercises in mega high repetitions have always been easy for me.

Today, i seen a 6 year old kid do 50 pushups, in a row... It was pretty kool. Hes into martial arts and hes ripped. Just like that little Hercules kid.

i get about 50-60 in two minutes, but my one friend in the army can get 85. thats impressive.

i can do 50 good ones nice about 1 every second to second and a half, im in the army, i bet alot of those numbers are of super fast pushups, not fully locked at the elbow, and not all the way down, but i could be wrong.

In the Army for my PT Test which was you had 2 mins to do them correct with someone watching to make sure their correct I averaged between 104-110 push ups which was always the most in every unit I was in except once a guy beat me with like 112.

you guys might not believe me but i dont give a two shits

most push-ups i ever without resting was 900 in a row(when i was 15)
most in a minute was 125(when i was 15)

i was in wrestling and this kid kept bragging how many push ups he can do so i challenged with a month of working on push ups who can do the most well time came

he did 1046 i did 900 i lost but he was 18

last year in college for my personal training class i did 105 in a minute and i havnt done push ups since i was 18 and im 20

I did 136,892 in a row.

I worked my way up to doing 120 in a row every day last year after work. Pushups really made me cut.

Chinups- I worked my way up to 25 in a row, with no cheating. I could do 60 in 3 sets.

Dude it is impossible to do 125 push ups in a minute!! You don't have enough time to do them.

Depends on what exactly you want from it. Increasing muscle size to a major degree, no it won't be much of value for that goal.
But testing your cardiovascular system along with upper body muscle endurance, yes, it will have a great value towards that goal.

Not to mention some bragging rights. :)

haha seriously, i bet those 125 pushups were 40 marine corps pushups :p

I have did 102 on a army PT test as as well a couple of times I have hit the century mark but like stated earlier most came in the first minute.

How about the guys doing 80 in one minute..Bull s#$%^

Those may be 1/4 pushups. the type were the person moves .5 inches in each direction.....

72 in 2 minutes is my best. US ARMY...

I can bounce around and pull off a 100 quick and sloppy just like everyone else being timed
I hate that shit , I usually only do 15-20 really nice clean ones full range of motion no body momentum with strict form.
when done correct the chest and triceps get fucking burt.

finally, the voice of reason.

High rep pushups aren't good for much. It's like doing a lesser version of real cardio.

I have been in the military and before that as a teenager could do 15 legit one arm pushups.

One arm pushups and weighted pushups are valuable as they develope real strength and teach you how to increase core tension.

Basic pushups are good when you are out of shape, but once you can do about 25 perfect reps it's time to up the difficulty imho.

My best amount during a 2 minute miltary pushup test was 87 reps. All the way down and back up to lockout.

Big deal. I doubt I could have benched my own bodyweight when I did that.

I also would always severely gas out at about the 50th rep no matter how often I practiced or what style I did. The last 30 or so reps were sporadic.

Some guys could do 100 without stopping.

I think this also correlates to fiber ratio and makeup as I believe guys that do very high amounts without stoppage have higher levels of slow twitch fibers.

One arm pushups and handstand pushups are excellent strength builders and very impressive if you can do reps of either if you weigh over 200lbs.

yep it's one thing to say you do them
It another to have someone standing over you screaming while you're doing them

Struggling to break the 45-50 (1min) mark myself at the moment, I do them elbows tucked in, though the army only requires you to be able to do a minimum of 60 in 2 minutes fortunately for the BFT.

I can honestly say I've never been even remotely interested in how many pushups I can do. I wouldn't have thought that any bodybuilders or powerlifters would be either.

A fun chest workout tip: When you feel "done" attempt to do as many pushups as you can..if you can do more than 5 you need to keep lifting until when you try to do pushups you cannot do 1. That is how I end my chest workouts and knowing this I never even try to be done until I know I'm thrashed because getting to the point where you cannot do 1 is tough.

For the Army PT test....you should be doing a minimum of a pushup a second for the first 60 seconds at least...............................by the end of basic.

while I was in Mui Thai training in the first week the instructor told me to do 1k push-ups. I did a legitimate 1,000 push ups.

First strict military the way I know how...then...a little less strict..then girl style...on my knee's :( ..then I bend my legs to keep going...then I straighten my legs and put my hands on a step to lessen the angle..then the next step...then the next step...Until I was on my knee's with my hands almost parallel to shoulders to do keep going. I did 1,000 push ups...stood up and went home....that was my work out for the day @#$% the ring lol. Legitimate solid push up 95 in my Army PTT

ARMY APFT....I did 111 in the first minute and got up ....going the full two minutes would have been a waste of energy since 72 reps is 100% and I still had sit ups and the run to finish...

and to Blaine who calls bull$### to people who can do 80 in a min.....I was an Infantry Drill Sergeant in the ARMY....I saw 80 pushups in a minute pretty often....I assure you they were full push-ups....

The ARMY APFT where I did 111 in minute was video taped because it was a tryout for a SRT Military Joint Counter Task Force with a particular agency....After tryouts were over they went over my video and counted each one to make sure I did them all at full range. If I would have been caught cheating I would have not have made the team based on Integrity.

when i trained for endurance i was able to do over 150. now i probably couldnt do 50.

Once a month just get down...for as long as it takes 10 at a time on your knee's push out 1k pushups. The result is pretty impressive.

i just did a pushup test for a military like org,
with strict standards and dudes watching and checking form.
did 86 in two minutes, banged out fifty no sweat then started fading fast
thought i was on track to break 100 easy, hell no.
i like pushups now, esp as a finisher for upper body

After dieting for my show I figured I'd try max pushups in a row since I was so light. 127 -- felt like bar reps.

I find that as I get bigger, the amount of pushups that I can do has decreased...a lot

That's me with dips. I used to be able to strap on retarded amounts of weight with a belt and go to town. Now that I am bigger I can't do nearly as much weight on the belt. I do dips for chest also, very rarely as a tricep exercise.

my 15 yo step son does not lift. the only thing he does is karate. he is tall and skinny. i watched him do 184 full pushups no rest at the bottom nose to floor straight back the whole time.

just wondering, if you're training with weights and your pushup max is like 30-40.. is there any point trying to bring it up to like 80-100, will that help with size/ strength??

Well I would train with a deck of cards for 365 pushups, but the most I have done in one set is my 96 in 2 minutes time.

125. its no different then anything else.. you have to push yourself and work at it.

i end my chest day with 60 pushups

a trick to getting better at pushups is putting a 25 or 45 pound weight on your back. then once u train for a while take the weight off and it will be so much easier without the extra weight.

no offense....but I really doubt you do 125 good form pushups with no rest

oh puhleeze, doubt all you want.

I attend a boot camp and there are a few of us in there who can easily do 100+ pushups in a row no problem. its not that hard if you work at it.

now 150+ would be hard, but anyone can do 100+ with training.

When I took karate as a kid, we would do pushups (among many other exercises) to warmup. We would do 10 times however many people were in class. Sometimes there would be up to 20 people there. I was a young, skinny kid though, lol!

my X was into gymnastics and could rip off 50 of them.. and she looks like a small petite chick. i dunno why people think pushups are that hard.

pullups and pushups are both things that can be improved on quickly if you work hard at them. i know a 62 year old that can ripoff 42 pullups!! he did it right in front of me. he does them 3-4X per week and graudally got better and better.

no such thing as the word CAN'T in my book.

Yeah but there is such a thing as shitty form. No way in hell you can do more than 100 pushups with solid form and tempo (tempo is key) without rest.

This is good form:
YouTube - How to Do a Push Up Correctly
YouTube - crazy guy obessed with 100 perfect pushups

Very few people have good form. The second video is pretty damn good though

my form is perfect. i've been doing pushups for 15 years atleast EOD. i end EVERY workout either cardio or weights with 50 pushups.

now when it comes to pullups i have to work on those, but with my forearm issues unfortunately i cannot do more then 17 or 18.

okay. It's just that you are a fairly big guy and I never see guys your size busting out many pushups. And when someone says their form is perfect I know it's not. No one has "perfect" form haha. In the video that guy had good form though

I'm 5 6 180 pounds with 15% bf. i dunno what is 'big' about any of that, and what bearing that has on ones ability to do pushups? there are fat guys who can do 100 pushups, there are skinny guys who can do pushups. i guarantee you someone who works at it can do it!

when i was 140 pounds with 6% bf and was a runner i could also do 125 pushups in a row. i honestly don't see any difference in my ability to do pushups at this weight vs. that weight. now pullups is another story. i do have more difficulty doing pullups today, but keep in mind my arm injuries make it impossible to really bust my ass doing them.

i think you have a misconception about pushups. there are female gymnasts that can rip off 100 pushups as well as scrawny Asian martial artists.

now when it comes to being able to bench 300 pounds, that is a totally different story.
