How important is cardio to you?

I just want some opinions.

I currently dont do any cardio:

1. I work a regular 40hr week job and do a lot of waking there
2. I do powerlifting on a regular basis and its a good cardio workout
3. I myself dont find it to fit with any of my routines.

do you do cardio? And how do you benifit from it?:mix:

cardio yes/no

i was running 3 1/2 miles n 15 min every day b4 winter hit im trying to gain size! i powerlift to so i want every gram of protein and cals. for my muscles! now i might do like ti boe or jump rope(muscle biulding cardio) but i do alot of abs so theres usually my cardio! if u have a comp. cummn up ur best bet is to and start soon 2 get ur bf % down low so every ;lil muscle shows then dont really worry about it untill ur next 1 if u have them all lined up or amont or 2 apart keep doing it if there spread apart 5 months or so thne stop 24 a month.

It was never important to me until recently. I did cardio for the first time today in ages and if felt damn good. With the goals i set for myself, i better get a move on with cardio. :)

I work 8-5 and would LIKE to do my cardio before work in the morning but I have faced the reality that I can't wake up that early every day.

I get to the gym around 6:30, lift for about an hour, then go swim in the pool for about 20 minutes nonstop....then 10 minutes of "pool walking". Believe it or not but the pool walking still maintains a heartbeat of 130-140 beats per minute. I don't even look at it as cardio b/c it's fun and therapeutic. Then I'll top it off w/ 5 minutes in the hot tub.

I enjoy cardio, but even for cutting, I try to keep the cardio low intensity to not risk catabolism. I do LI cardio on empty stomach in morning. If I've got some food in me during the day, I will play some basketball or hit the heavy bag. Other than that, I like to sprint once a week. All of these activities raise your heartrate pretty high, but since they are stop and go, I feel like I am not losing muscle.

ive heard good stuff about sprints, about how they can pack on muscle when the right frequency is used. I think once or twice a week is fine, i need to start doing them again.

Meat Head, you can run a mile in 5 minutes or under? Sounds pretty fast to me. Too fast, honestly.

Yeah, sprints are supposed to be good. Once a week at first, 90% intensity, 4x100 meter sessions with a warmup lap around the track, and a cooldown lap. Plenty of stretching. After each 100 meter, jog lightly around the track once and then do another sprint. Keeps your heart up, and definately packs on muscle, while being the least catabolic cardio there is. In fact, it's considering anaerobic, not aerobic.

It is more important than lifting,I would rather run or use the bike than lift

The ticker runs it all and you cant have a strong car without a good motor

Yeah, but people who lift get cardio workouts from that, and if you eat healthy, you're plenty fine. You may have a top of the line motor, but other's turbos leave you in the dust, and their hydros attract all the women, whilst your stuck with a beat-up town-car that can't drag for shit.

I have NO idea what I just said :FRlol:

Cardio is alcohol to me.

I use to do it allllll the time, stopped years ago, and now I would just get sick.

LK2, I can't believe you're a rice-burner dude. I thought you had a brain!:D

I do cardio to lose bodyfat, have a healthy heart and all that, and build endurance. I usually do HIIT on my treadmill, but I go on different rotations with my stationary bike and exercise videos.

On the other hand, my hubby hardly does cardio and emphasizes PL and karate - he's 6'/265# now, down from 280#..but if we go on a long hike or walk he gives out sooner.

my cardio is intense boxing and sprinting, it helps pus on muscle and get you ripped if you do just enough, but the long distance stuff I'll leave for marathon runners;)

I think it depends on your bodytype. Hardgainers can do without it if they lift regularly and eat right. But for us big boys, it's a must if you want to lean up or even maintain. If I didn't do at least some cardio, The "bad" weight would come back in a heartbeat.

I'm a weird one because i LOVE cardio. Actually, I like endurance training (running, cycling and swimming). So cardio is pretty important to me. I want to try a few sprint triathalons this coming summer.

However, when training for size and strength its not all that important. It helps for the cutting process, but diet is far more important in my opinion. I still think its a good idea to add some cardio though, if only to keep the cardiovascular system in shape.

Very.. See below

At 40, it is very important
I love food in Moderation
I have a Sit Down job
I have a slight family history of heart disease

been doing some sprint w/o etc. Goal of my cardio is not fatburning, but just merely being able to sprint hundred yards and not die... what is th ebest time to do cardio IF NOT trying to burn the fat. I usually get off work at 10, im thinking a run workout, then go home shower and down a huge meal before bed. any thoughts or experiences. My workout time is at 11 AM, 4 days a week. sleep about 8-9 hrs a night. thoughts or experiences???

well, seeing as I'm on the track team, I don't have much of a choice, and by the way meat head, if you can run 3 1/2 miles in 15 minutes, you should enter some races, and win a lot of money.

Wow, I didn't notice Meat head's run time before.

I usually don't question people's stats, because I don't know them. Also, there is really no reason to lie, and I think almost everyone is straight on this board. But....3.5 miles in 15 minutes....everyday? Please. That's the biggest pile of horse crap I've seen on here for a while. Do you have any idea what running less than a 4.3 minute mile is? Obviously not

yeah, if he can keep that pace up for a long time like he says, kalid kannouchi (world record holder in the marathon) might have some competition soon;)
