: Most of the information that I have obtained on the internet leads me to believe that you have to sign everytime considering you are going through UPS, FEDEX, instead of U.S. Postal. Does it depend on the package size? Someone please explain how this process works.

Here's the deal:
First class postal service you don't have to sign, no matter what the size (unless it's registered mail or worse, a FED). But, it is normal for them to knock on your door and/or hand it to you if it's really large. For commercial carriers, it gets tricky. The sender can wave the signature but you might still be asked to sign (usually if you live in an apartment complex or bad side of town). It's basically driver discretion.
The best way to handle it was described here earlier--put it aside and mark return to sender on it and let it sit for 2-3 days. A jury can't possibly screw you on that.
