If you, (your Friend), wants to bring the stuff back to the U.K via the bus trip, it should be no problem at all. I go to A'dam quite regularly and have no problem when coming through the customs.
In fact, your Friend should find it very easy to buy the A.S in large quantities and still he should be fine.
Here in the U.K, the authorities are only really interested in the "dealers" and not really in the A.S user.
Hope that this info helps. I may be able to help your friend by giving him some places to visit and details of prices, etc. but, only in A'dam as I don't know, or visit, Paris.
