Your thyroid controls your metabolic rate, secreting both T4 and T3. T4 converts
to T3. T3 is what controls your basal body temperature. When dieting your body temperature
will decrease because your T4 decreases its conversion to T3. Therefore, thyroid hormone
will help keep your basal body temperature ABOVE average, which is good. Before starting
your thyroid medication I would emphasis 3 tests be performed by a doctor. These are called
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Test, Free T4 Test, and Radioimmunoassay Free T3 Test.
These test will allow you to know why your Thyroid Hormone levels are not above average.
It will more than likely be a low T3 count, therefore you should use a T3 Thyroid like
Cytomel(Liothyrine sodium) to bring your thyroid level optimal. If your thyroid is decreasing
output (T4 output), then synthroid(Levothyroxine Sodium) is the right choice (This will be
indicated on your TSH Test). If you have average T4 output but a decreased T3 coversion
then synthroid will not help only cytomel. Try using a thermometer every morning to see
your body temperature is above normal. Do not use thermogenic agents before the test because
it will not be an accurate reading. Remember that an overdose of thyroid hormone will cause
a 2 month span before it returns to normal. Also Buy Dan Duchaines BODYOPUS it will answer
all of your questions about Thyroid supplementation (along with other great info.).
Hope this has helped,
