Excessive sweating can make you really self-conscious, hurt your social life, and – worst of all – ruin your chances with hot women. If you suffer from a perspiration problem, you should definitely find out the causes and learn how you can stop sweating and stop hyperhidrosis.
I’m willing to bet that many of you have had fantasies about seducing certain hotties at your gym. And while I’d rather not think about how far each one of your gym-seduction fantasies goes, it’s safe to say that you at least hope to land a date with a workout babe.
Unfortunately, you have virtually no chance of seducing anybody when you’re sweating like a whore in church. Never mind being able to pick up a chick... most people won’t even want you in the gym when it looks like the janitor used your shirt as a washrag. After all, who wants the bench next when you’ve turned it into a sweat sponge!?
But the reality is that not everybody can help their excessive sweating problem (possible hyperhidrosis) because it could be hard to stop sweating due to a medical condition. And even if you don’t have a condition, major perspiration can still be tough to control in the gym, or even throughout the day. That said, let’s take a closer look at what causes extreme perspiration and some steps to stop sweating.
What causes Excessive Sweating?
The simplest way to explain excessive sweating is that it occurs when the body is working too hard to cool itself down. Some people have a slight problem with this, while others suffer from the aforementioned hyperhidrosis – where they sweat far too much for no reason. For example, if you’re watching TV in a controlled temperature and sweating like crazy, this isn’t normal.
The most common type of this problem is focal hyperhidrosis, which is a medical condition, but nothing serious other than the uncontrollable sweating. The term “focal” refers to how the excessive perspiration only happens in certain areas like the armpits, face, groin and feet. Interestingly enough, scientists still don’t know what causes focal hyperhidrosis, but a couple of explanations include a malfunction in the nervous system or simple heredity.
A less common version of hyperhidrosis is labeled “generalized,” meaning it causes sweating all over the body. This is much more serious because it’s the result of an underlying health condition like thyroid problems, diabetes, leukemia, lymphoma, tuberculosis, menopause, alcoholism or Parkinson’s disease. Assuming your body sweats uncontrollably at night, you should definitely consider seeing a doctor.
We should also mention that – besides hyperhidrosis – excessive sweating can be attributed to anxiety, which is psychological rather than medical. When this happens, a person could start sweating, then sweat even more when they get anxious about perspiring in the first place.
How to prevent Excessive Sweating
There are a variety of ways to help with extreme perspiration that’s attributed to either hyperhidrosis or other factors like anxiety. The most basic action you can take involves visiting a doctor – although this obvious piece of advice doesn’t help people who’d like to solve the embarrassing problem on their own. So here’s a list of some things that people should try when they’re having lots of trouble with sweating.
Apply an Antiperspirant at Night
One of the simplest solutions to a perspiration problem involves putting on an antiperspirant at night. This is typically the best time to apply an antiperspirant because people perspire less at night, and the product’s aluminum-based ingredients are pushed into sweat ducts. Going further, this process leads to pores being blocked, which is really effective at stopping sweat and not as unhealthy as it sounds.
What’s nice is that antiperspirants come with directions and they’re sold over the counter. Some of the top clinical-strength products include Secret Clinical Strength and Degree Clinical Protection; both of these normally cost $8-$10, which is more than regular-strength antiperspirants. However, these products are effective at stopping mild sweating problems due to anxiety and certain cases of hyperhidrosis.
Using Medications
Sometimes people use medications to stop hyperactive glands from kicking into action. In other words, these meds can help manage both focal and generalized hyperhidrosis. A few common drugs include Ditropan (Oxybutynin), Robinul (Glycopyrrolate), Probanthine (Propantheline Bromide) and Cogentin (benztropine). Some of these drugs can cause mild side effects such as drowsiness or dryness in the mouth, so keep this in mind when going the meds route.
Botox Injections in your Armpits
Going further down the road of extreme sweating treatments, people can also solve their perspiration problems with botox injections. These are typically done under the armpit area, and it’s considered perfectly fine for treating excessive sweating. The way botox injections work is by preventing sweat glands from triggering lots of perspiration.
Surgical Procedures
There are a few different surgical procedures that people can undergo to take care of bad cases of generalized hyperhidrosis. The most commonly-known surgical method involves the removal of sweat glands, which features several different processes within itself. These include sweat gland suction, axillary liposuction, laser sweat ablation, and retrodermal curettage.
Aside from the various sweat gland-removal procedures, there is also an operation where doctors cut a nerve in the chest to prevent excessive sweating. One more method worth discussing is endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS), where surgeons burn, clamp or cut the thoracic ganglion that’s located near the spine. While this may sound like a really rough procedure, it’s actually quite safe and works over 80% of the time.
French Transit Deodorant Crystal
The last option we’re going to discuss for getting rid of major perspiration is the deodorant crystal by French Transit. Compared to the surgeries and botox that we discussed earlier, the crystal is pretty mild since it’s just a different version of deodorant. Crystal deodorants are comprised of mineral salts, and when applied on the arm pit area, this product’s aluminum chlorohydrate/aluminum zirconium helps blocks pores to reduce sweating – much like an antiperspirant. In addition to this, crystal deodorants contain mineral crystals that make it very difficult for bacteria to grow, thus making you smell better.
Take Care of your Sweating Problem
As we discussed in the introduction, taking care of heavy perspiration is very important. After all, many people with sweating problems find themselves much more self-conscious, and their social life takes a dive as a result. Taking the last part into consideration, you have a much smaller chance of scoring with hot ladies.

So if you believe that your over-sweating is easily treatable, buy a deodorant crystal or antiperspirant and see if it takes care of the problem. Assuming your sweating is the result of a much more serious condition – which hopefully isn’t the case – you should definitely get in touch with a doctor. Sure it’d be a lot nicer to solve the problem yourself, but the main thing is to do whatever it takes to keep your sweating under control.
