Sports Illustrated mentions the EliteFitness.com Forums in their May 18 magazine. The article is a supplement industry expose "What You Don\'t Know Might Kill You" by David Epstein and George Dohrmann. The article sheds light on the ugly side of the completely unregulated supplement industry where as Sports Illustrated puts it, "Would-be experts and untested products feed a $20 billion obsession with better performance across all levels of sports."
Here\'s the paragraphs from the article mentioning the Forums.

During Gonzalez\'s conference call, one of the moderators instructed prospective buyers to take milk thistle with Monsterdrol. It was good advice. Milk thistle is believed to protect the liver from some of the harmful side effects of anabolic steroids. But in the supplement industry, not all milk thistle is created equal. In 2007 Bill Obermeyer, a former FDA scientist, analyzed a dozen milk thistle products as vice president for research at ConsumerLab.com, an independent company that tests nutritional products. Half of the products contained significantly less of the liver-protecting complex silymarin than the labels claimed, and one was contaminated with lead—bad news if you\'re counting on the stuff to protect your liver from, say, Monsterdrol.

EliteFitness.comLetter to the Editor
Regarding Article: “What You Don\'t Know Might Kill You”We at EliteFitness.com, who’s anabolic steroid discussion forums are mentioned in your May 18th article, “What You Don\'t Know Might Kill You,” have advocated for a solution to the problems of the nutritional supplement wild west since we went online in 1996. EliteFitness.com believes that anabolic steroids and diet drugs should be decriminalized. This is different from outright legalization. If anabolic steroids and diet drugs were decriminalized, then adults could legally use these substances with a doctor’s supervision for cosmetic purposes. As things stand now, using these drugs for cosmetic purposes is a criminal offense.
EliteFitness.com envisions the cosmetic use of anabolic steroids under a physician’s supervision in much the same way that doctors now supervise legal cosmetic procedures such as botox, breast implants, and liposuction. This would go a long way towards ending the anabolic steroid black-market, taming the wild west that is the supplement industry, and in turn, keeping these substances out of the hands of kids.
Let the NFL, NBA, and IOC etc. regulate themselves as they see fit. But realize that people are going to always seek ways to look better. Changing the laws so that adults could safely use these drugs under a doctor’s supervision to improve their appearance would go a long way towards addressing the problem of the reckless use of supplements, diet drugs and steroids. Yes, there are still dangers associated with the cosmetic use of steroids and diet drugs – even with a doctor’s supervision. But the risks are far less than what we already allow with many of today’s legal cosmetic procedures. A “safe tummy tuck”? Now there’s an oxymoron – just ask Kanye West.
