Find Out Why and How the Top Bodybuilders are Shaving their Entire Bodies
Being ripped and huge, driving big trucks and muscle cars, hunting, owning a rottweiler, and kickboxing are all high on the list of macho things to do. Shaving your entire body, however, is definitely towards the bottom. In fact, shaving from your head to your toes is stereotypically something that only women do.
But, as you probably already know, our ever-evolving society is starting to see more and more men take up the practice of shaving their entire body. And no, they’re not the kind of guys who parade around in their homes in nothing but women’s pantyhose. Many of them are regular guys and they do it for various reasons.
And one of the main reasons that they do it is because their girlfriends are really into a man with no hair on his body. Some chicks just dig guys who are smooth shaven. Another main reason is because shaving the body can give certain athletes an advantage in their particular sport of interest. Swimmers, for one, often do a full-body shave so that they can reduce friction in the water. Bicyclists also shave their lower bodies in order to prevent wind resistance and so they can easily treat their wounds when they wreck.
The sport where people often undergo full body shaves that we’re most interested in though is bodybuilding. Yes, bodybuilding sees almost all of its top competitors, as well as many amateurs, shaving their whole body every year in order to gain a competitive advantage. The advantage that comes from having a more cut or sculpted look due to the nonexistent hairs that could cover up the bulging muscles that a bodybuilder worked so hard to build.
And while shaving the body may be old news to many throughout the fine sport of bodybuilding (especially those who are regulars in contests), there are still some athletes out there who either refuse to take up this practice or just aren’t sure of the best way to go about shaving their bodies. So for the second group of people, I’ve got some tips that will definitely help when you begin shaving your whole body.
But before you even think about putting a razor to the rest of your body, there are some preliminary things to take care of before you start to shave your body. The first thing to keep in mind is to use a razor and blade that you’ve already used on your face before since you don’t want to use a blade that is too sharp or you’ll easily cut yourself in the blind areas when shaving.
Another thing that is a must when preparing to shave the body is to make sure that you use gel instead of shaving cream. The use of gel in body shaving just seems to cut down on razor irritation, keeps the amount of cuts that you can get to a minimum, and definitely seems to make the whole process go a lot smoother. One shaving gel that really seems to make for an easy shave is ZIRH Shave Gel. This skin-calming wonder can be found at //zirh.com/product.aspx?f=5.
Also, if your body hair seems to naturally go a certain way, try to shave with the hairs instead of going against the grain. This way may take a bit longer in order to get a really smooth shave but you’ll make up for lost time with much less damage being done to your skin and fewer cuts as well.
The last thought to keep in mind before moving on to the actual shaving is to make sure that the place you shave in is the shower. For one thing, doing it in the shower makes sure that there will be less to clean up at the end. Another advantage to shaving in the shower is that your body will already be lathered up so it will keep cuts to a minimum and you’ll avoid a rough, dry shave. Now that this is covered, let’s get on to the actual shaving of the body.
The first place that I’d like to talk about shaving is the armpits. And no, this has nothing to do with revealing muscle definition. It just makes for an overall better appearance on the stage and will help to make sure that sweat won’t get trapped in your armpits when you’re working out in the gym and, in turn, make it unpleasant for everyone around you.
So to get started getting rid of excess armpit hair, you’ll need either a pair of scissors or, preferably, a body trimmer. This way you can clear out all of the long hair before getting down to shaving the leftovers. A great body trimmer to use is the VIDAL SASSOON Professional Men Body Grooming Systemand the Remington Bht2000/Trimmer/Pivot/5settings. Both are designed for men and are great for clearing out excess hair or even shaving your entire body.
After clearing out the jungle underneath your arms, shave the remaining hair in order to complete the job. The next place that I want to cover in regards to shaving the body is the chest as hair here can mask the pectoral muscles big-time. The main things to remember here is to use a trimmer first if your chest hair is really long and be careful when shaving around the nipple area as a nick here can be very painful.
Another spot that definitely needs shaved is the back so that your deltoids can always shine through. If you are able to, try to get someone you know to shave your back since it is a blind spot. But if you can’t find someone to shave your back for you, then here’s some tips for doing it right.
Put some gel onto your back while you’re in the shower and start shaving. You should scrap the previously mentioned idea of shaving with the grain of the hairs as it is difficult enough just to shave the back as it is. Do your best when shaving to get every part on the back and avoid cutting yourself. Hop out of the shower and check to see if you’ve gotten all of the areas of your back including the hard to reach places.
There’s no scientific method to shaving your own back but there are some devices that can help such as the Razorba if you’re having major difficulties reaching everywhere. One of the best is the MANGROOMER Do-It-Yourself Electric Back Hair Shaver click the link to read more about it at Amazon. Another good one is a specially designed wand that eliminates the difficulties associated with shaving your back. This wonderful product can be found at Razorba.com
After taking care of the back, it’s time to move on down to the pubic area. Now I’m not going to say that you need to shave yourself clean like some adult film star but do shave enough to avoid having any embarrassing hairs poking out of your trunks that might gross out the contest judges.
To begin, take some scissors or clippers and trim down the longer hair if you haven’t shaved down here in a while (or ever). When this is done, start shaving your pubic area in a very slow manner. If you don’t go slowly you can accidentally nick the tiny little bumps that are in most people’s pubic region. Once you are satisfied with your pubic shave then it’s time to make the last stop in this body shaving adventure: the legs.
Keeping the legs hair free allows your calf definition and quad muscles to be seen much better but getting to this point without collecting any nicks can be kind of tricky. Make sure to wait for your leg hair to be softened by the shower water before you begin shaving. Then start shaving from the base of the ankles and work your way up to the knees but be careful when moving the razor around knees because a cut here can be very painful since the skin is so close to the bone. After clearing the knees, finish off the legs by shaving your quads and then your body shave is complete.
That’s not to say that there aren’t any other important things to keep in mind after the shave though. Especially when concerning the topic of razor irritation as those nasty little red bumps can be very unappealing when they are present. One of the best ways to avoid razor irritation is to make sure that your blade is not too dull. While a razor that is used on the body shouldn’t be too sharp, it can’t be so dull that it aggravates sensitive skin.
Using shorter strokes when shaving is another way to cut down on irritation as it ensures that you’re not pushing down too hard on the skin. Also make sure that you use plenty of gel when shaving such as the previously mentioned ZIRH Shaving Gel so that you experience a smooth "take-off".
If you can afford it, you might want to look into some other methods of hair removal too. Some people swear by waxing because it can prevent hair from growing back for one to two months. However, you can make the next time you have to undergo a waxing session even farther away if you use Kalo Hair Growth Inhibitor Lotion or Kalo Hair Growth Inhibitor Spray.
All you have to do is apply these products after your hair removal session and you’ll experience a 10-15% reduction every time until the hair eventually gives up and refuses to grow. And the best part of using these products is that they come with a money back guarantee so that there are no worries about trying the spray or lotion out. They can be found here at 1bodycare.com.
Another method of hair removal is a new type of spray product. It is called “Ultra Hair Away” and performs the miracle feat of ridding one of hair without having to shave or wax your body. I would certainly suggest giving this product a try as top bodybuilder, Jay Cutler, recommends you try it as well since he is a huge proponent of using Ultra Hair Away. You simply spray, massage the product into the areas where you want hair gone and you get results. Get it here ShaveNoMore.com/.
Here\'s what Jay has to say about it:
Ever since I swept the Nationals and launched my pro career in 1996, I\'ve wanted to present the total picture of great body and great skin. But one of the issues all bodybuilders struggle with is hair removal -- so I was very happy to discover UltraHairaway.
This is a really revolutionary product that actually changes the texture and appearance of body hair, reducing the amount of hair growth and transforming hair to nearly invisible and superfine. The skin stays healthy and smooth because you\'re far less likely to experience razor bumps or irritation when the hair is so much less coarse and noticeable to begin with.
With continued use, I\'ve reduced body hair to be very insignificant. In my recent competitions, I\'ve become known not only for a fantastic physique, but also for my excellent skin tone and unusually smooth hair-free body. I feel that UltraHairaway has been a great help in the competitive arena.
The only product I know for hair reduction and refinement is UltraHairaway. It transforms, reduces and makes the texture of unsightly hair almost baby-fine.
Whether you\'re a competitive bodybuilder or just a guy who wants to look his best, this is a great solution.
The bottom line is though, whether you shave, wax, trim, etc., it’s very important to keep the hair off of yourself as a bodybuilder in order to look your best on the stage, or anywhere else for that matter. Just think, you spend hours in the gym every week to build up muscles so why not take a few extra minutes every so often to make sure that everyone can see that great muscle definition.
