We all know that eating meat provides lots of protein when you're trying to build muscle. In fact, most bodybuilders see meat as a necessity when they're packing on pounds of muscle. However, several prominent mixed martial arts fighters in the UFC are taking the opposite approach to getting ripped by becoming vegetarians.
Jon Fitch is one of the MMA fighters who is ditching meat on the road to getting in shape. He also has company with fighters such as Jake Shields, Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Diaz, Nick Diaz, and Mac Danzig all adopting the vegetarian ways too.
Shields, who faces George St. Pierre for the UFC welterweight title on April 30th, commented on his vegetarianism by saying “I’ve been this way all my life. I’ve got nothing to compare it to. The only thing is, nobody can train as hard or as long as me and Nick Diaz, so that seems to indicate something.”
I think it's pretty interesting how these fighters are simply eating vegetarian food products, and still looking ripped and muscular. However, I wouldn't recommend this for a bodybuilder because, well, the sport is all about building muscle. Sure you need fruits and veges, but you also need lots of protein.
