I was watching the History Channel the other day, and this show came on called Stan Lee's Superhumans. Now I was about to change the channel because I'm not into that supernatural, superhero stuff, and I know that Stan Lee heads Marvel Comics and X-men. However, I saw on the preview that there was some bodybuilder with an indestructible stomach, so I thought that I'd check it out.
At the beginning of the segment, they showed this 60-year-old guy named Tom Owen working out in a Birmingham, Alabama gym. And I'll have to say that he was in pretty good shape for his age; in fact, Owen had been a champion bodybuilder in his earlier days, so I've got to give him props for that.
As the segment progressed, Owen let people punch him in the stomach and do squats while standing on him to display how much pressure his abs could take. What this was all building up to is the part where Owen has a truck drive over his stomach, thus showing that he has some sort of "superhuman" powers (as the show name implies). Needless to say, I was thoroughly disappointed when the event actually went down, and I'll describe it for you in detail.
Now I know that having a full-sized truck run over your stomach is not only dangerous, but also deadly. However, the premise of the show and the build-up made me think that this loon was actually going to have a truck run over him. Instead, Own got down in this space between a ramp with his stomach exposed a few inches. So when the truck tires went over him, it was actually going up a ramp, and then treading a little over his stomach.
Now this is pretty scary for Owen I'm sure, but all it really amounted to was a glorified carnival trick.
