I've been going on and on about how big bodybuilding in Afghanistan is for the past few years. In fact, you can check out one of my articles about it here. And the Afghanis backed up what I've been saying by winning the 2011 South Asian Bodybuilding Championship.
Afghanistan won the competition after grabbing 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 2 bronzes. The Afghani gold medalists included Hamidullah Shirzad (75kgs), who is considered a big star on their bodybuilding team.
A spokesperson for the Afghan Body Building Federation told reporters, "Afghan sportsmen showed the world that they are powerful and prepared enough to compete oversees. Other countries couldn't compete against Afghanistan and in conclusion Afghans were victorious."
Obviously these comments are a little boastful, and I don't know about the whole "couldn't compete against Afghanistan" thought, but it is cool to see all of the hard work pay off.
Moving past the boastfulness, other countries that did well in the competition included Pakistan and India, which placed second and third respectively.
